Agreed, if your getting something for free you go and pick it up,

Although many disadvantaged people will not have means of transport to do so, or necessarily know someone who does have access to transport. But I guess it would take a *very* charitable person to give something away and deliver it.
  • I don't get why its OK to keep posting wanted ads for flat screen monitors, telly's, laptops, cars (even saw one asking for ferrari or similar!). But against the rules (although not directly) to ask for information. I live in a village, get no free papers and have asked everyone I know for a handyman to no avail so I put a wanted on freecycle, I had 2 abusive messages flaming me for filling up a mailbox and "advertising my services" (there are links to a NON COMMERCIAL website of mine and one of my blogs in my email sig) and now the moderator has taken away my right to direct posts (without the courtesy of telling me) so that my posts have to be moderated before appearing, which means if something gets snapped up straight away then I have to wait hours for my TAKEN message to get posted and recieve hundreds of emails in that time.
The best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j

We did do this once because someone needed something and it was on the way hubby had to go anyway, some people do not have transport (it was a coffee table) Hard to suss out if someone is genuine sometimes but this one was.

I can understand that and have delivered things to people and have had 2 people kindly drop off things to me, at their offer not my asking. I had said we could collect at the weekend but they wanted the item out of their way sooner and offered to deliver, i was very grateful and made sure they knew that.

The woman about the bottles really annoyed me tho as when i gave her my address and told her when i would be in for her to collect she said 'well if you are off out you can drop it off'!!! No please or any good reason, pure laziness i thought.

Like Ebay, Loot and possibly even MSE, I wouldnt say the site is corrupt, but there are a few unsavoury characters that linger on certain sites for alternate reasons. Unfortunatley, it goes on, thats the way of the World. I wouldnt say that the majority of users are corruptive, but without a doubt, your bound to get a few.

  • Ebay is certainly more corrupt than freecycle ever will be!

    Hope you are right LOl;)
I would 'car boot' stuff if it werent for the fact that I cannot imagine getting 3 kids out of the house at 6am, along with a knackered hubby who has been up early every day for work. Why DO car boots start so early?

That is the onl;y reason I am going to post stuff on freecycle for 'car boot' I have a few boxes of micscellaneous tat which is too heavy for me to take to the charity shop.

I've been doing a fabulous decluttering job at home with the help of Freecycle this past week. I could never have done it this quickly and efficiently if I'd tried to get rid of everything through eBay.

Several of the people who I chose to receive my items have posted follow up messages saying how delighted they are with them. I can't see anything corrupt about my experiences so far.

I also 'won' and collected an item myself which I am thrilled with, so it's all thumbs up from Missy!

I've given away a lot of items on Freecycle, and generally have been happy with the people receiving them.
Last one looked as if she might do the odd car boot, but at least it saved me from doing it!
  • Well I have just given my first item away just 5 minutes ago. No no-shows and I am sure it will not be car-booted, since it was 3 round brita filter cartridges. LOL
