Freecycle is it corrupt??

Freecycle allows unchecked electrical items (unlike auctions) and furniture without fire labels.
Open house I would have thought for Freecycle anti's.0 -
I don't really understand why big business havn't mounted a campaign against Freecycle, at least with Ebay it's buy and sell and even church fetes make an income.
Obtaining something free is putting shops out of business.
FPMSL, is that a serious post?
Since when has it been illegal (or even morally wrong) to give items away.
Church Fete's sometimes sell tomatoes and so do Tesco. My mum and dad grow their own though - there will be a campaign against growing your own produce soon! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Of curse it's a serious post !!!Since when has it been illegal (or even morally wrong) to give items away.
Something doesn't have to be illegal for someone else to campaign against you doing it.
It's not illegal for me to smoke, drink, eat meat, fried bread and cheese but I keep getting bombarded by people telling me not to do it.
It wouldn't take much for a large electrical company to start implying that you could be in danger if you accept second hand electrical goods from strangers you met on the internet. They could also imply that you may be given stolen goods the thief can't get rid of, therefore run the risk of being arrested for receiving stolen goods.
As I said in my last post, some company's are combatting the second hand market by taking away your old appliance when they deliver your new one.
That could be the first shot in a campaign against the second hand market.Church Fete's sometimes sell tomatoes and so do Tesco. My mum and dad grow their own though - there will be a campaign against growing your own produce soon! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Not against growing your own, but if you buy from a church fete you don't really know where the produce has been. Could be stolen, been grown using chemicals or even peed on just before going to the fete?
If I were Mr T I could build a TV campaign round that. There is a big thing these days about knowing where your food came from, and what is in it. Just reminding people that they don't know where, or what is in food bought from fetes would be enough to put people off buying it.0 -
Shops and auctions, and probably boot sales, are burdened with the costs of complying with Trading Standards, why not Freecycle. The next big thing will be Skills Exchange Trading System (SETS), one has just been set up here, no Corgi, no Part P or whtever it is electrical safety.
"I'll mend your toaster Mrs, if you cut me hair".
Of course, I'm serious Morph :-))0 -
There are already threats to giving stuff away, rules on what charity shops can and cannot sell, and the anti second hand shoes mafia who will have you believe you are as near as in bed with the devil if you so much as suggest second hand shoes. My public flogging is long overdue all my kids and myself have worn 2nd hand shoes...
I'll just get my (second hand) coat LOL:) :rotfl:Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

There are rules and gegs about selling second hand electrical goods, but I don't think they apply if you are giving away the goods.
Apparently the law doesn't want you to be electrocuted by something you paid for, but it's ok if you got it for nowt.
I suppose it doesn't want you thinking "!!!!!!, I paid good money for that" as you fly backwards across the kitchen. :rotfl:0 -
Freecycle certainly taken off here in West Norfolk and also in Fenland. Mind you if you take into account travelling nearly as cheap in the auction hall and recycling centres.
More into being plastered Joe, I said Mrs.0 -
For those that check freecycle posting before giving anything away, I'd just like to add that I have just recently moved and gave loads away on my old freecycle but have only posted wanted and asked for things in the new one.
Unless there's a way of seeing global freecycle posts, it seems a bit unfair for people who have just moved to a new area to not receive any help.0 -
What annoys me is the people who ask for your stuff and then ask for it to be delivered!!!
I recently put a load of unused baby bottles, teats and bibs as my new baby is fussy with his bottles.
One reply said 'can i have it as my pregnant 17 year old relative doesnt have any money and needs baby stuff, can you deliver it!' ermm NO and someone who literally lives around the corner who said 'can you drop it off next time you are out and about'!!!
I was gobsmacked, i had put in the offer about my baby being fussy so they knew i had a new baby so isnt easy getting out and i think personally if you are getting something for free the least you can do it pick it up!!!
Agreed, if your getting something for free you go and pick it up,No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20
