Try again, the V5C/2 works regardless of whether the vehicle is SORNed or taxed.My mistake possibly, but last time I tried, I had a message telling me that I couldn't tax online as the previous keeper hadn't notified the DVLA of the sale. This may be because it's only possible to use the green slip if the vehicle is currently declared SORN..
Only time it won't work is if the vehicle has been declared SORN or taxed online within the preceding five days; or if the green slip does not belong to the latest issued logbook or has been previously used to tax the vehicle.0
