Well i know for a fact that his Dad/stepdad basically sat him down one day and force fed him fish, so that explains why he won't eat that
The other stuff i can't explain, he's Welsh so he won't eat Lamb as he says it could be family ! :rotfl:0 -
Queenie- Did you eventually go on to tell your kids about the rabbit and fresh cream?
I am used to son saying he doesn't like things and having to hide them/call them something else and keeping quiet but now Cullumpster has posted about her 36 yr old bf I'm wondering if I'm doing the right thing and if I should eventually be revealing what he has eaten?0 -
I must admit when i first told him that's i'd put cabbage, leeks, mushrooms, tomatos ect he did turn his nose up and say erghh, but he still ate it and he still said he enjoyed it, he laughs now and asks what's in the dinner tonight0

Queenie wrote:My kids LURVED rabbit ... but only because I told them it was chicken (I couldn't afford to throw it away!! ) My eldest son LURVED "dairy" cream - which I gave him especially because .. he "hated" FRESH cream
LOL
My Mum used to do this to me. We had a lovely chicken casserole one day, until she told me it was rabbit..............I also used to like black pudding until I found out it was congealed blood.............
My OH used to be terrible with veg, but I've gradually got him to eat more & more. He prefers most things raw to cooked??!!
He still won't eat raw tomato, but will eat pasta sauce, pizza etc.
Maybe it's a welsh thing? (My OH is welsh too)0 -
Lol it maybe Lucie
I prefer all raw veg to cooked (except potato) when it's cooked it's got a weird 'Nan' smell to it so most of my meals consist of some raw veggies.
Out of iterest Lucie, after you found out about the rabbit and black pudding, did you continue to eat it?
just to add a little fun to the discussion, my friend is a strict veggie, but she loved the veggie burgers they used to have in our canteen at work, until she found out she'd been taking them form the wrong tray and she'd been eating blak pudding for the last 6 months !! :rotfl: she wasn't best pleased with herself !0 -

 ... and compromise my (alleged) integrity????

Yes, when the eldest 3 reached adulthood we had a good chuckle over some of the things *I* did as a parent, and some of the things done to me *by* my parentsMy eldest actually had a real belly laugh over it and then, felt free to "confess" to me that ... at college, he'd been eating trifle with fresh cream and hadn't the heart to admit to me before that he'd quite liked it
Bit like when you recall telling kids about the reality vs fantasy re: Santa Claus sometimes, we tell "wee porkies" for their sakes/sensitivities/ages?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Never eaten black pudding since, but now it's more the lumps of white fat that put me off than the fact it's blood. Haven't eaten rabbit either - but only cos I have always has pet ones.
One of my house mates at college was really fussy & wouldn't eat turkey, only chicken. Being poor students we found turkey miles cheaper than chicken, so the rest of us used to give her turkey instead of chicken - she never knew the difference. She was gutted when she found out!!0 -
It being the english asparagus season, take your BF out to a PYO farm, pick some asparagus and eat it raw as soon as you have paid for it, dipped in hollandaise sauce.
If he doesn't like that, chuck him.

My foodie *treat* is soft herring roes ...
... my boys asked me recently what they were (I've never offered them any - guaranteed to make them *want* some) ...
.... without a pause, I answered: "Herring delicacies"...
... why were the elderly couple next to me giggling?
The boys had a little taste (just a morsel!!!It was *my* roe!!!) when we got home and think its DIVINE.
 I'll wait a few years before I tell them what it really is~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
