If they choose to leave the door where it is that is up to them.

As they had already caused damage to my guttering I feel I was justified in moving it.

Yes but you've moved it to a position where there is a risk of damage if the wind is strong enough. You've acknowledged the fact there's a risk of damage so you're liable for any damage caused. Let's hope they don't claim from you if it happens.

It wont catch the wind and if it does I will counter claim for the damaged guttering. i have taken photos of the door in situ against the guttering and the subsequent damage so I have all the proof I need.

They on the other hand do not.

Yeah - we are on the top of a hill and it gets really windy here - it could have potentially caused damage/cracking to our guttering.

Now, it will either fall over into their garden or damage their fence if it gets blown about.

I tried so hard to get on with her when she moved in but I think sometimes you just have to remove yourself from the grief!

Isnt it funny how something so small can turn into something so big....

Maybe they'll read this, it's all the proof they'll need.

I will take my chances - I have limited the damage to my property - the door is now in a sheltered spot - visible to them - but resting on their property, not mine. I didnt enter their property to move it - I moved it to stop the damage from progressing on my property.

Rash thing to do? yes. Do I now regret it? Sort of. Will I move it back to continue to damage my property? No.

Well either you did or you pushed it against their fence without any thought for any possible damage caused to it. I bet the kick off when they see it.

You need to read the entire thread with regard to how I could have moved the door without going on to their land. In fact, the bottom right hand corner of the door didnt move at all - it was just pivoted 90 degrees - along with the whole door - I didnt push it onto anything.

Pointing out to me the error of moving the door is one thing and I welcome your point of view, to imply I am not telling the truth in not entering the property is another entirely.

    Shame on you.

You either pushed a heavy door off your gutter allowing gravity to do it's job or you entered their property. So which one was it?

As I have previously stated - I pivoted the door 90 degrees to go from my guttering to rest on their fence.

    No pushing, no bashing.

You are obviously just passing the time without actually adding anything constructive, which is a shame. Thankfully people previous to you have helped me tremendously in the true nature of this site.

They are at home at the moment and have been out the back for a fag but have not commented upon it as I was out the back at the same time - probably because they can see the mess they have made of my guttering.

Thank you for all of your (mostly) kind and constructive comments.

6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

Your guttering shouldn't have been overhanging their land.
Their door should've been placed more considerately.
You shouldn't have been "interfering with their property on their land"

However - it's "just a door" - when hefty men go up ladders to clean out gutters etc they lean their ladders against the gutter and it supports their full body weight ... so, knowing that, it'll be "no harm done" and just annoying for you that they didn't think how annoying it'd be to discover it.
