  • whats the best way to get around in glasgow? and wheres chapest hotels??

I assume your travelling to Prestwick then? Prestwick is around 35 miles from Glasgow although there are very good train links from the airport to Glasgow Central. I think you can also get half price travel on the train if you show your flight boarding pass.

Not sure about hotels but you'll get a good night out in the Merchant city at a lot lower cost than pubs around Central station area.

Just booked 2 return flights, Belfast - Stanstead for 4p!! No credit card charge for using a MasterCard either?!

Using Tesco Clubcard deals to book the hotel so, all in all, a cheap weekend away! Great stuff :)

Try https://www.laterooms.com for a hotel in Glasgow.

Last time we went (May this year), we stayed in Jury's hotel which is 2 minutes walk from Central Station. Nice enough hotel and the bar is open til 5am  Quite close to the Merchant City and easy walking distance to good shopping around Sauchiehall St, Buchanan Galleries etc.

  • Thanks again to MSE I've got my third 2p trip of the year booked. We've been for a long weekend in La Rochelle, a week in Carcassonne and now I'm going on a daytrip to Charleroi.

Flight leaves Stansted at 6:05 AM :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
    Returns at 22:55 at night:beer::beer::beer::beer:

Surely someone here can help me out...

    1. Is Charleroi as crap and boring as it looks on the tourist sites. If it is, can anyone recommend somewhere nicer nearby, like Brussels, for example.

    2. Do they speak mostly French or Walloon in Charleroi?

    3. Any Xmas shopping bargains to be had in Belgium?

I had a drive around last time I was there - it didn't seem to have much of interest.
    They speak French.
Not sure about bargains as such but I thought Belgian chocolate was good value if purchased there.
Also a good choice of beers in Belgium - in the past I would often go to hypermarket at Charleroi and buy as much as I could carry to take home - the problem now however is the excess baggage charges.

Brussels is a nice place to visit and although I have only driven there, my brother told me it's Ok by bus from the airport at Charleroi.

I've also gone further south - Ardennes region was nice.

Also went to Luxembourg city for a day by car from Namur (place we stayed in near Charleroi) - I'd go back there but you might feel it is too far if you have to get back for a plane. Striking position on top of a hill with city walls intact. Some nice old buildings and some good modern cafes/bars and restaurants. They speak a form of Germanic dialect there - a lot of people seemed to speak English however.

Back to Belgium though - you didn't say when you are going but I noticed they have Christmas markets on in December - might be of interest http://www.belgiumtheplaceto.be/christmas_markets_20072008.php

Here is another link with some information and more links to help you decide where to go

According to a load of passengers I have stopped over the past few weeks arriving back from charleroi they all said the same thing and that was they wouldnt go back, from what I gathered apart from a few bars which serve nice belgium beer there is naff all to do.

Im a big fan of ryanair but I wish they wouldnt use misleading place names to make punters think they are going somewhere else, for an example girona barcelona, which is nowhere near barcelona, I apprecaite people can google, and believe me I always do when I book a flight, but it would help if they were a tad clearer as to where the flight actually took you.

    all the best

    the bear

oooo and seeing as your coming thru stansted, which is where im based, is there any chance you could drop me some choccys off when you arrive??
