Nothing on the market

  • Well, obviously there are 3 in the area I seek which are within my budget, but bedrooms which are 2.44m x 3.2m for double bedrooms aren't exactly very useful. A kitchen you can't fit a standard dishwasher in because it has been badly designed isn't helpful. nowhere you can put a tumble dryer, not useful! Gardens overlooked by 8 other houses.....no thank you.
I'm not desperately picky (believe it or not) but the standard of the !!!! thrown up these days is poor, and only second-hand new builds fall within budget - all 3 of them.

I'm pretty sure there will be houses with bigger bedrooms, big kitchens and non-overlooked gardens. Bizarrely, they will be more expensive. It's very strange.

All you need is a better house than the ones in your budget that falls into your budget. You'd think it would be easy.

Again you are saying they are overpriced when reality seems to be you can't afford what you want.

Your budget is 80k over mine so don't think I'm being a snob but maybe what you can afford will have to do ? Or you need to raise funds for what you want

Are you only looking at newish and new build houses? Why not try looking at older properties?

Personally I would never buy a new build these days as they seem to have all the problems you have mentioned - small rooms and crammed together with your neighbours.

In fact we've never bought a house less than 20 years old and have been very happy with them.

Having had my flat go to SSTC within 24 hours, the initial happiness has worn off. I have looked at a few houses within a 40 mile area from 1 bed, to 3 bed, from £150k to £220k to try and find something. But nothing. And nothing seems to be coming to the market within my budget. I've got an open mind, but what is on the market is [STRIKE]overpriced[/STRIKE] over my budget and [STRIKE]very small[/STRIKE] outside my unrealistic expections,

I just want to move and get on with my life but my budget isn't big enough

I worry nothing new will come up in the coming weeks. I am anxious my buyer will pull out if it takes me more than a month to find something. I'm a week in post-offer and panicking because I haven't yet realise my budget is too low.

    Is anyone else finding this?

    I've corrected your typos. HTH.

I don't want a newer build. I would like an older one. My point was - not a lot on the market.

Also, yes I am well aware of what I could get for my budget in a market where more stock is for sale.

I came here with an observation about the market, seeking those with similar experiences, not seeking to be ripped apart. I've had years of !!!! and am trying to move on from it all.

This forum can be useful sometimes but at other times it isn't.

Years ago, when the market was in free fall nationally, the supply of fresh property for sale shrank to a trickle. The people who were selling tended to be those who had to.

So, although we'd sold and were sitting pretty with cash in hand, the number of acceptable properties in our price range was zero. Like you, things might have been different if we'd had more £.....but that's hardly a revelation.

Once again, Britain is into a period of uncertainty and supply of residential property has slowed. It's not the same as before, nor are the effects so general. Local factors are still dominant and it's hard to know whether the recent lack of confidence will be sustained.

But all any of us wants to buy is one property, so regardless of statistics, it's a matter of altering expectations to make something work.

We bought 150 miles from where we'd focused our search, and what we bought was not at all as expected. In other words, we thought out of our box, and that's what has to be done when nothing fits into it.

Your box is probably too small.
  • I think it's a case of just keep looking.

Our son saw some right tips of houses in his price range but kept looking & is now buying a lovely house.

Sometimes it's just a case of being in the right place at the right time

Do you mean it's not useful when you are told what you don't want to hear?

Are you saying that you are searching in an area where there are only small, new or newish houses for sale or that there are only small, new or newish houses for sale in your price range?
