Or perhaps a higher limit. The card I use for day-to-day spending has a limit of £17K, but I rarely have more than £1K on it. So I don't need to worry about whether a particular transaction would put me above limit. All I need to know is that I can pay for what I've bought and have a memory good enough that I can recognise a transaction that is obviously wrong.
Frankly if I had a spurious transaction from a supermarket I regularly use, I probably wouldn't notice. I doubt whether most people would.0 -

In my case, it's balanced risk assessment. I know where I shop and essentially I trust the chip'n'pin system. I know where I use contactless and for how much. I also know when I do things. I check every entry on statements against what I know I do.
If I kept every receipt and checked it off against the statement (which is what I used to do), it would take considerable extra effort. I prefer to spend that time doing more productive things. YES, it is possible something could slip through, but in practice unlikely and only for a small amount. I would notice anything larger. Call it lazy if you like.0 -
As others have said the real question you need to ask yourself is why you have been spending to the limit of your card. The credit limit isn't a target it is a maximum and lenders do not normally look favourably on your balance being close to the limit. Especially, if you are looking to increase your limit at a future date. Sure you may have been unlucky and the lender might waive the charge, but I would ask you the question as to why this really happened.0

Was the amount of the late-claimed payment, the same amount as a quick-claimed payment, perhaps on the same day ? If so, it might be a duplicate.
I take the OPs point :
I have 2 credit cards, both with Internet and mobile Apps. One shows a change to the available credit within a few seconds of making a transaction ; the other can take a day or two to update, so it can be worse than useless. The whole idea of a card, and digital banking, is surely to not have to keep a separate track of things ; contact-less is no help, if you have to write it down. Imagine a wallet where when you paid people, the money stayed in it ; but could disappear at any time.
With bank accounts, cheques are awkward. They can be delayed by months.
Until the digital systems can catch up, why can't they have a "scratch pad", where I can note down the amounts, then delete them when they clear ; and ideally have the displayed "available credit" reduced by the sum of those items ? If I send my brother a cheque for £20 for Christmas, I would note that down, and the App / bank web-site would remind me to keep that much "spare", even if he doesn't cash it until May.
With Apple-pay etc. it would presumably be easy, because the phone knows how much it authorised and to whom ; so it could look out for the matching transaction, whenever the retailer gets around to submitting it. The OP would not be caught out, because she would truly know the "available to spend".
Ditto on the payments to the card. One of my cards will update within a few hours to say I've made a payment ; the other will take a couple of days, so I have to remember what I've done. The part of the App which knows I've paid £100 from my current account ; should be able to tell the other half that £100 is pending for receipt on my credit card.
I feel like someone asking for an alarm clock, being told they should just know when to wake up in the morning. Technology should be there to help us.0 -
Wow, thanks for the lectures and finger pointing the cc company have agreed that my complaint is valid and they have restored my account and status.
I won't be recommending this forum to anyone else that is looking for a bit of help in a hurry.0 -
Rubbish, and the same goes to all the other half baked, condescending replies0

Before you get too nasty and cocky wait a couple of months and keep checking all three credit agencies. Just because they have cancelled any fees doesn't mean that they won't report a mark against you on the credit reports as you went over your limit. You the responsible adult....0
