My theory is . If the sofa is sold by a shop it is highly likely it will fit through a standard door frame... otherwise the shop would be forever having them returned.
If only that were true, the internet is full of similar questions including lots where people have bought the High Street brands of sofa shops. One just the other day...

Op, Habitat have a clear guide on how to measure to see if it will fit. http://www.habitat.co.uk/buying-guide-sofa-measuring
Go back to the shop, explain you want to double check the access for the sofa and measure up. See if your sofa is one that comes apart.0 -
Exactly the fag packet calculation I did. It fits easily.Do they not teach pythagoras's theorem at school any more? To make it easier, assume both the height and depth are 1m. Then the diagonal of a right angle triangle with those two sides is 1.414m, so half that (the red line in EssexExile's drawing) is 70.7cm. Which is less than 84cm...
As for your first question, they do still teach Pythagoras, and SOC-CAH-TOA, but most people will simply trot out the tired old line of "I never use any of the maths I was taught at school, it isn't relevant". Then these situations crop up...0 -
I use less than half of my A-level Maths, so that's over 90 %.I never use any of the maths I was taught at school, it isn't relevant0
