    Op, Habitat have a clear guide on how to measure to see if it will fit. http://www.habitat.co.uk/buying-guide-sofa-measuring

    Go back to the shop, explain you want to double check the access for the sofa and measure up. See if your sofa is one that comes apart.

    Exactly the fag packet calculation I did. It fits easily.

    As for your first question, they do still teach Pythagoras, and SOC-CAH-TOA, but most people will simply trot out the tired old line of "I never use any of the maths I was taught at school, it isn't relevant". Then these situations crop up...

    I use less than half of my A-level Maths, so that's over 90 %.
