Immediate Dismissal Enquiry

Hello everyone,

I've been put on gardening leave from my work this week during my one week notice.

I am however really disgruntled about this as the reason I have been sacked is due to me leaving to study at university in September, but my manger has known about my intention since October.

Despite being forced into giving five months notice, when my notice period is only a week. I was rang by an agency earlier in the week to be told that my services are no longer needed and I had to leave with immediate effect When I asked why, I was told it was because of my lack of future commitment. They don't even have a replacement for me yet and they have had serious problems in finding someone to fill the role in the past.

I realise they're fully entitled to behave this way but I find it disappointingly unfair.

I know this isn't much of an enquiry, it's more of a rant!

If I didn't tell them, then they would have found out through other ways. So I thought it would be better coming from me than from somebody else.

If you were phoned by an agency then I assume you are not actually employed by the company that doesn't need you any more?

How? I mean this wasn't mi5 presumably, so how would they know?

The agency were in charge of hiring people for the role. But I wasn't employed by them.

How were you "forced" to give five month's notice.

For future reference, unless you have been employed for two years or more (so that you have some security) never give more notice than your contract requires as there is always a danger of this happening.

I had a friend who knew about it, who wasn't involved in the company who spoke to me about it in front of a colleague.

I was told I had to tell them exactly when I was leaving to help things run smoother. I realise I've handled this badly and made a mistake.

I don't think you have been sacked have you? You've worked your notice all bar a week and during that week they've put you on gardening leave if I'm reading it correctly.
Being paid for not going to work for your final week doesn't sound like so much of an issue to me.
