Goldcar Car Rental

We have recently returned from a terriffic 10 day break in Italy. We had reviewed car hire options from the MSE web site and booked a small compact car via Argus Car Hire and the supplier was to be Goldcar for collection at Campario Airport.
On arrival the only desk which had a queue was Goldcar and it became clear each customer being processesed was having difficulties. We had paid for the hire car and had taken CDW refund insurance and therefore only expected to have to leave a deposit to pick up the car. This was as expected 1200 euros. I was offered additional insurance at a cost of approx 240 euros which I declined, I then presented my credit card which was declined. I then contacted my bank who agreed that there was no issue why my card should not be accepted, and they were not blocking the transaction. Goldcar would not take any other card and I could only therefore take the car if I accepted the additional insurance. Goldcar then managed to process the additional insurance on the same card which had previously not being accepted. If you are looking for car hire in Europe although Goldcar look good value on the brokerage sites, I think they are then forcing you to take additional insurance at there desk.

Seems that you didn't find the already long and growing GoldCar thread....
You were enticed by a ludicrously low rate and thought that you were going to get an amazing deal
If it looks too good to be true.....0 -
We have yet to find any satisfied customers of Goldcar and yet there must be some otherwise Europcar wouldn't have bought them last week. Their reputation here is beyond dreadful, sorry you didn't check before booking0

I googled campario airport and there's no such place. Where were you?The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -

Seems Europcar are earning themselves the same reputation as Goldcar has, fraudulently overcharging customers for repairs and now being investigated by Trading standards. Perhaps best avoiding both companies especially if they are now owned by the same group.0 -

I've used Goldcar 3 or 4 times visiting Spain and Italy and not had any issues. Bit of pressure selling with the extra insurance to deal with at the desk but nothing I wasn't expecting.0
