If you can get the drive out (youtube is great for finding how) then a cheap usb drive caddy will allow you to copy your data from it.

Interesting. Thanks. Just have to get myself moving with the flu. Go get some answers and then tonight borrow relatives laptop and get the rest of the work done. I'm ok with buying a new laptop but not if this is solvable and would rather not have to rush to do it.

If you are in no rush and can extract your old work as I suggested by buying a cheap drive caddy from Amazon or eBay then you should be able to get it going again by downloading the correct Windows ISO from Microsoft (check sticker on machine to find out which you need) and installing Windows from scratch, You may run into issues with drivers but the correct ones should be there on the laptop manufacturers site.

It is quite possible that the problem you have can be fixed with a lot less drastic action and with your data intact but when things go wrong there are umpteen methods people have found to work and most of them won't actually work for you. I'm lazy so I keep images and make sure personal data is stored off the opsys disk - Dropbox is good for low volumes stuff and photos and videos can also be stored in the cloud although I'd recommend external drives for those. I use a NAS with mirrored drives so a single disk failure can be recovered.

Thanks! This is useful info for me in future, lol, but I went to pc world and arranged for the laptop to be fixed before seeing your post.

Still it will save paying for a new laptop.

I have a question for anyone reading this thread. I'm going to try and finish off the accounts I was doing tonight on the tablet, it's an asus EEE transformer TF101. I've been using open office org calc spreadsheet, but I don't think that will download onto the tablet. Anyone any ideas? thanks :-)

Take a look at AndrOpen Office

I've never used it but it looks as if it should support what you want.

Yes it works, I have left a download link to AndrOpenOffice on your other Thread.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
