It might be worth her getting some advice from Womens aid.

Criminal cases are public record - should be able to find out some basic info with a bit of googling

Not when the crime is a sexual offence against a minor. Information is suppressed for the protection of the child.

There have been cases where journalists/editors have had court action taken against them for 'leaking' such information.

The basic info may not tell you very much - the same offence can include quite a lot of variation in relation to he specific facts (so for instance, an 18 year old having sex with a 15 year old partner, and a 35 years old having sex with a 14 year old would both technically be the same offence, but most people (and the law) would see them very differently.OP's friend may not be able to get clear information herself, but if her ex were to make an application to the court, Cafcass can.

OP, if she did not go to the trial and hear the evidence herself, she should not take at face value what her ex (or his family) say. It is very, very common for offenders to understate or minimise what they've done.
All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)

I happen to know a charity that might be able to help you. Google MOSAC - they have a helpline and a range of leaflets which may cover this situation.
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

Is there any chance that your friend can be made sole responsible parent for her children? Has she retained any Court documents applicable to the children, when the divorce took place? There has to be some mention of the children within those documents.

Bearing in mind her marriage to another since then, would it be at all possible for her new husband to adopt the children? Usually the biological father has to be asked to agree to that, but I wonder if that can be put aside, if it can be proved that any presence of him in the life of the children, would be dangerous for them.

I am just thinking aloud here, based on the experiences of my son and our two grandchildren. He was granted full custody of his children when his ex-wife neglected and abused them. The court granted her only supervised contact, for 2 hours, every 2 months, this to be changed later if her behaviour improved or deteriorated. My son had moved away with the children and his ex did not bother to come for contact. She had no contact for 7 years, then attempted to use another solicitor to get custody. The court threw that out and instead barred her from seeing them until they were 16. She has since married and divorced again and had two more children put into care. I think some husbands and wives ought to be sterilised!

Any way, she has not ever contacted the kids and they don't want to see her: our son has been a great dad to them. My point is that this man may give up if enough obstacles are put in his path. He just wants to control her, as he did before. If your friend could have sole parent responsibility, she would be in control.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
