Buying Used iPhone 7 - Precautions

Interesting perspective, and useful insight, thanks. What else apart from the headphone jack? I've had an iPhone 3GS and then 4S for about 6 or 7 years, and in the time I've never once plugged in earphones of any description, so it's a non-issue for me, but interested in any other criticisms. I looked at the 6S and thought it was pretty much the same, but less powerful, so the 7S makes sense since I might have it for the next 4-5 years! I might as well stay ahead while I can, even though there might be an 8 in the autumn.
Anyway, I just had an exchange with the seller on eBay: He bought the 7S from second-handphones.com on eBay on the 12th June 2017 for £479.95. He then received it and said he preferred his 6S, so listed the 7S on eBay straight away for £430 / £650 Buy Now. Got no bites, so he reduced the price and eventually it sold to me. second-handphones.com however have a no-quibble 14 day money back policy, so I asked him why he didn't just get a refund. He claims he thought he'd get more by reselling it, but miscalculated. Bear in mind though that the IMEI Estimated Purchase Date quoted earlier is 20.04.2017. I guess that would have been the original owner before second-handphones.com. 3 owners in 2 months! Sound legit??
Too big and slippy so not comfortable for one hand usage considering the screen size is only 4.7 inches the phone should be a lot more compact. The sterio sound which is louder can only be used in landscape mode.
I use the headphone jack for earphones when out running and also to connect to the auxiliary slot in the car sterio. There is an adaptor for the iPhone 7 but the sound quality is awful and I like to charge my phone at the same time in the car as I use it as a satnav too.
The iphone 7 is imo the worst iphone yet. I would not buy second hand from eBay no matter how cheap it was. The seller doesn't want to keep it does he?
If screen size is no issue go for the SE. It is pretty much on a par with the 6s spec wise and is a lot cheaper brand new.
Oh and 3d touch is pretty useless.0 -
You may have convinced me to take a pass on it. I'll have to apologise to the seller, but it's his fault really because I sent him payment right after the auction but he didn't 'claim' it because it was a new paypal account and got in a world of confusion ending up with me having to ask paypal to reverse the transaction so I could send it again once he'd verified his account and lifted the cap on it.
Anyway, I really love my iPhone 4s 64gb and would continue to use it for another couple of years if i could. Unfortunately I was forced to upgrade to iOS 9 recently from 7.1.2 due to my Banking App demanding it. Bad idea! The phone went from being snappy and utilitarian, to being bloated, slow eye candy. Now I can't down grade the iOS so have to sell a perfectly wonderful phone. The size and weight work great for me, so I could look to a new SE I guess.
Also, with the iPhone 7s and 8 due in a few months I'm sure this will have an impact on current used prices for the iPhone 7, so pointless paying the high asking prices right now (about £410 - 460).0 -
Sounds like you want a 5S to me.
These are the right size and will support IOS11 when released in sept.0 -

The 5S is getting long in the tooth and no longer listed by Apple, we got a pair of SE iPhones just over a year ago, the only real advantage of the 7 compared to the SE is it's more water resistant.
The size of the SE suits my top pocket and my OH finds hers fits her over full handbag too. Ours are the 64 GB version, although I think the current ones are only available as 32 or 128 GB.
Ours came from an Apple Store, where you receive exceptional service. They also accept trade-ins and help transfer apps and data, etc.0 -
Nah, that's pretty old now, hardly worth going from a 4s. The SE is physically identical to the 5s but much newer technology, practically the same as a 6s. It's a good deal really. I just took a look at them in the O2 shop here. Having said that, I looked at the 7s there too and the gadget freak in me was getting drawn in! Now that there are no roaming charges in Europe I can see that a nice big screen could be helpful for sat nav, maps, info, etc when on holiday.
I think it's a toss-up between a SE and 7, but the best time to get either would probably be after the summer, or whenever the new models are released.0 -
beat me to it Frozen_up, I agree though.0
