Travel money for a student

Hello,
I'm going abroad this summer, and as a student I don't have much of a credit history, so I assume an application to a specialist overseas credit card would be rather fruitless. What other options are there for me to take my travel money safely and conveniently, whilst also cutting down on costs?
Cheers
