I'm not sure. I know with Sky they don't increase the charges for customers still within the 1st year as I believe it then can be used a 'get out' claus. I'm not sure if that still applies to Sky or even if it applies to T'W. You would need to read the t&c that you signed.

The main difference between NTL & Telewest is that T'west are doing free weekend calls and it is to all geographical numbers not just local calls as NTL are doing. The thing is they've put up the line rental by 50p (now £10.50) and have increased daytime calls from 3ppm to 4ppm. You can read Telewest's tariff charges here. These prices will be before any of the price increases they must have just announced. I couldn't find on their website any notice to say that prices are increasing. I currently receive 512k broadband (with no caps/limitations) for £17.99 a month so I hope they're not increasing those prices!

Thank goodness I changed my phone line back to BT. I only ever took their phone line to get a fiver off my broadband, but as they now charge the same regardless of whether you have any additional services, I changed my phone line back to BT.

The 6p connection charge has always been a bone of contention for me, but now to force everyone onto a new tariff to get cheap weekend calls, but up the price of daytime calls is just taking the michael.

Broadband prices will remain static for the time being.

If anything, broadband prices will go down. Although I think Telewest offer a brilliant broadband service (but not much good for anything else IMHO), it would be commercial suicide to up the prices whilst everyone else is getting more competitive.

I agree. Their broadband (i'm on it) is average price for unlimited/unrestricted bb. Their TV & telephone are way too expensive. We had telephone, TV (inc xtra box) and BB for years. We then switched to BT to take advantage of a lot (i'm mean a lot) cheaper telephone calls (call18866, etc). T'w when they rung us to try and persuade us to stay were aware of Call18866 and said they couldn't match anything along those lines whatsoever. They never even offered free line rental for 12months like some people on NTL have managed to get.

I'd rather drop my phoneline and use the money to increase the broadband speed to 2M/256 , and run a decent voip service over that :)

I'll dig out the T&C's ... just hoped someone already had experience of this.

I think you will find that the reverse is correct, daytime rates on Talk Weekends and Talk Evenings and Weekends are reducing from 4ppm to 3ppm from July. Not forgetting the rip-off 6p connection fee of course.

You can but they charge £1* extra per month if you have the TV but not the telephone.

    * I mention £1 but it may have been £2 as can't be sure!

Current price for Supreme tv package on top of phone line rental is £15.50 per month (payment by DD); Supreme solo (without phone) is £20 per month, additional £4.50 per month.

Current price for Essential tv package on top of phone line rental is £9.50 per month (payment by DD); Essential Solo (without phone) is £13.50 per month. Essential price to increase by £1 per month from 1st July.

I was aware of that just that I wasn't very clear on my post what I meant. When they did TalkWeekend (replacing the normal tariff) they increased the line rental by 50p, dropped the free cable-to-cable calls and they did increase the call charges from 3ppm to 4ppm (daytime). Now that they've got a tariff change they've reduced the daytime calls back down to 3ppm I'm assuming because at 4ppm they must have been one of the most expensive call providers even more expensive than BT for daytime calls. On the other hand, they increased their calling conveniences (caller display, etc)to £1.50. I believe still cheaper than NTL & BT though.

Thanks for that I couldn't remember exactly how much more expensive it is - definitely didn't realise it was around £4. I do remember though that when we moved line rental to BT they did, at the last minute, mention that our TV package would go up. Having compared prices with Sky, I rung them up and threatened to leave because Sky worked out at nearly £10 cheaper per month (we had an extra digibox). They reluctantly agreed to match it to stop us from moving our TV as well as the telephone which we had already done.

As I only use the line for incoming calls and considering the price increases I have decided to get rid. Cancelled phone and starter tv package three weeks ago, just keeping broadband. Switched to Freeview and signed up with Sipgate, completely free VOIP line for incoming calls with a local geographical number. Caller ID & Call Waiting at no cost.

All in I will be saving £19.50 per month against what I pay to TW - basic tv, phone line + call feature pack & ACR.

TV & phone due to be disconnected next Saturday!
