Currys consumer act

Hi, I am in need of some advice. I bought an iPad from currys in March 2015 £399. I was really happy with it until in April 2017 I received an update from Apple. Since that update I have been unable to connect to the Internet. I took it to an apple approved repair shop. It couldn't be repaired, Apple actually agreed to replace it but then realised I had bought it from currys and therefore I have to deal with Currys because it was a third party purchase. I took the iPad to the Currys store I bought it from but they refuse to do anything about it as it is out of warranty. The iPad has not been misused or abused in anyway it was because of this update. I told Currys about the sale of goods act 1979 but they dismissed it and told me I had got to got to go to the manufacturer and gave me apples number. After a lengthy telephone call with Apple support he sent me to Birmingham Apple. So I travelled to Birmingham to Apple Genius Bar, but again said Currys have got to sort it out and advised me always buy from Apple direct never Currys as they only give you one year warranty, Apple give you two years, however they gave me a report to give to currys to help my case. I have emailed their customer services with copies of the documentation but am yet to receive a reply and from what I have read in the Internet their customer services are shocking. I gave them 14 days to reply as advised by which magazine and then if no response send on to the ombudsman.

Can anyone add to this or advise anything else I could do.

Currys actually want to see a report that shows, on the balance of probability, that your device is inherently faulty.

If your report doesn't say something like that, then Currys do not have to do anything for you.

What exactly does your report from Apple say?

Even if/when Currys accept your claim, then the remedy can be any of a repair, replacement or a refund.
Currys decide on which remedy, and they are obviously going to choose the cheapest.

As Apple can't repair it, is seems likely that Currys can't either.

I would suggest that a replacement is going to be unlikely too.

Which brings us to the refund.
The Sale of Goods Act allows for any refund to be reduced to take account of the use you have had.
You paid £400 and have had around two years use.

I wonder what's the life expectancy of one of these things?
As these technology products seem to lose value very quickly during their early lifetime, and also very quickly when a later model gets released, I would suggest that any refund might be lower than you anticipate.

Anyway, show us what your report from Apple says.
