Housemate racking up big bills

The said housemate isn't the most intellectually gifted, and through our investigating it appears that the account is in the landlords name, and there is a pin on the account that is needed to be input when trying to buy anything on the account. I personally don't know the pin code, but I do know that said housemate does as I have seen him input it. I will go back to the landlord and see what they say.

How on earth has your landlord let this character get hold of his pin code?

I expect there is something somewhere on the Virgin contract about the account holder having the responsibility to safeguard their pin number and that it's down to them if they incur any losses from not doing so.

The landlord is the one that let their pin number out of their grasp. The landlord is the one that is the account holder. I'd throw that ball right back into the landlords court personally and send them a letter stating that "as the account holder - you are the only one due to have access to the pin number for this account. I have personally witnessed Duffhead Tenant using YOUR pin number to access YOUR account. May I ask why you did not safeguard YOUR pin number on YOUR account?" or words to that effect.

As it appears (from Virgin's pov) to have been "legitimate use" (ie Virgin werent to know it was being used fraudulently by the sound of it) then the effect of the fraud falls onto the landlords shoulders - as they should have safeguarded their pin number.

I wonder what else this duffhead landlord hasnt safeguarded:cool:

I did read it, not much to read. And whilst I am grateful for your second post offering good advice, and would normally find the first comment funny, my sense of humour seems to have dried up this evening.

You managed to download the book and read it in 2 minutes or you've read it before?

I don't miss the days of having to hide toilet rolls in the bottom of my wardrobe.

Sorry mate crossed wires, I didn't realise what you had posted was a link, all I saw was that comment!

Oh and don't get me started on toilet rolls, it's like someone is eating them, the rate they disappear.

Unfortunately I am moving out in the next six weeks and the landlord is threatening to take the money out of my deposit.

If you're deposit is held in a protection scheme, he can't. You object, it gets referred for review, you win.

You can always point out that the LL had the ability to change the pin at any time. As he didn't contact you about the extra charges, and didn't change the pin. That implies acceptance of the extra charges as part of the service he was providing to you.., as does giving the pin to the other flatmate..

Plus as you didn't use the pin or the items charged for, and have a seperate tenancy, they are nothing to do with you.

Remind him that he's the one with the account controls, and since none of you know anything about those add-ons he might as well cancel them.
