Need some advice please re a letter I received yesterday from Link financial which states that they have been looking for me re a Debt of £2,713 and states that the originator is Santander Cards Uk Limited. They are asking me to contact them but I have no idea of what this debt is for. I had 2 store cards many many years ago when I was married to my first husband and am not sure if it is re them.
The card debt would definitely be over 8 years old and I am not keen to contact them as I understand it could start it the ball rolling if it is an old debt.
Am due to marry next year and have been trying to sort out my finances. I thought I had sorted out things but now this letter has arrived and am worried sick. Do I ignore the letter or make contact

If they've found you now then I'd have thought it was unlikely that they'll just go away, but equally I don't believe that making contact (but not making any payments) starts the clock ticking again.

However, I'm no expert so don't take my word for it - I'd suggest posting over on the debt-free wannabe board, where there is plenty of advice about how to handle old (or new) debts, including if/when/how to write a 'prove it' letter back to them demanding evidence that it's a valid debt and not statute barred, see https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2607247

you need to check all 3.

it may be a fishing exercise and you just have the same name as someone with that debt. That is where the 'prove it' letter comes in
