  • So the tiler man came today and he seemed very nice and normal :p He quoted $2000 to lay tile in the areas I'm wanting, which includes all the stuff that he needs to install them, as well as a bit of prep work (have a patch of old tile that needs removing, etc). The catch is that if I want it done before Christmas, it has to be next weekend as his wife is due to have a baby early December

It's a bit earlier than I wanted to do it, and I need to get some painting done first among a million other things, but I think I'm just going to go ahead and do it. Might have to dip into my other savings, but I'll pay it back quickly enough.

So I'm set to spend ALL weekend ripping up carpet and painting. Feeling a bit overwhelmed, but you know what they say, don't treat a gift like a burden and all of that.

Just do what you can... he will have seen folk who are less prepared than you! Then put some cold drinks in the fridge so you can sit with your feet up and admire the work when it's all finished. :)

Haha Cherry, I wish I liked alcohol  Although perhaps not, because it's expensive.

A very busy weekend was had with ripping up carpet, painting and other shenanigans. BF came to help which I appreciated greatly although almost killed him when he broke my hammer first thing on Saturday morning when he was being a smart a$$ trying to show me how to "correctly" remove nails from concrete. Needless to say, my way is better :rotfl: That set me back a couple of hours while I waited for him to bring me a new one, but he also brought me lunch so I suppose that's acceptable. :T

We finished pretty much all that needed to be done, I just have one coat that I need to do on a door which I will do tomorrow night.

Almost had a complete meltdown last night when I went online to look at the tiles I wanted, only to discover that they were no longer on the website. Barely slept last night worrying that my tiles were discontinued   Went to the store first thing this morning and thank goodness they still had them. After the store lost my tiles part way through the day and other various screw-ups, I finally got my tiles home at 6pm.

Weekend can't come quick enough, I am so excited to get these tiles in :p
  • Haven't posted in exactly a month to the day
I have been so busy. Why do I do this to myself?!

I hope you have all had a lovely Christmas. Mine was pretty good, save for drama involving my sister which unfortunately is nothing new.

Flooring is in an the house is coming along nicely. It's still a bit of a work in progress, but it's getting there.

Have been spending money like no one's business. Some of it birthday/christmas money, some of it taken from god-only-knows what category, as I stopped keeping track a few weeks ago. Overall not too bad as it was there to spend, and I haven't really dipped in to anything that I shouldn't. Onwards and upwards.

Have ordered a dining table/chairs and new duvet cover, among other things. Very excited for their arrival :j Also just bought a microwave storage cupboard thingy from someone on facebook, so I need to go and collect that shortly.

I got back from visiting family yesterday so I will spend today at home getting everything in order. Have worked on next years budget and excel spreadsheet, need to also get my butt into gear and clean out my garage as there is so much junk and spare tiles in there. Plenty of stuff in there that I can sell if I ever find the motivation :o

I don't go back to work until the 8th of January, which I am happy about as it gives me time to get all of this stuff done :j Unfortunately BF is away visiting family until the 7th :(, but what can you do.
  • Well I had high hopes for today but ended up being very counterproductive. Pretty much just sat on my butt all day! I think I needed the break though, I should not be so hard on myself. The only thing I did was hung up some clothes line in the laundry, and just did the washing up and cleaned the kitchen while I talked to me friend on the phone. I really should vacuum and mop as well, but hey, there's always tomorrow.

Very Scarlett O'Hara of you! :D

Anticipating new furniture is always exciting... we are anticipating having the lounge decorated but as we will be doing it ourselves, we aren't looking forward to the actual 'doing'.

So your challenge from now till 7th January is clearly to put some of the garage contents on sale, then come back and tell us how you're doing! If we don't hear from you for a while, we'll send out a search party. :)

  • Probably a good idea Cherry, there's a high chance I might trapped in the garage under a pile of junk :rotfl:
  • Good morning! I am determined to make today a productive one.

    My goals for today are:

-Clean out/re-arrange garage to a point where I am able to at least park the car in there.
-Install new door knobs on the bedroom and bathroom door.
-Sort out and paint some kind of a box/cover thingy to go over my electrical switches.

If I can get these 3 things done today, I will be very pleased with myself.
  • Well today was more productive than I initially anticipated. I have cleaned out my garage to the point where I can get the car in, have installed the new door knobs. I even put up a floating shelf which was a tad more difficult than I had anticipated, and at one point I had smoke coming out of a hole in my wall. but managed to get it done eventually.

Also managed to sell my old exercise bike and some no longer needed stools for a total of $50 :T

Have yet to get around to painting the electrical cover box thingy, but might do it after dinner.

Am feeling very pleased with myself.

Am unsure if I should put this $50 towards buying some new light shades, or apply it to another category.

Wow - truly a productive day! And no call-out charge for search party. :D

Did you have some particular light shades in mind? If not then perhaps wait to see if any other need comes up.
