Not Paying Last Months Rent?

I'm moving house and can't afford to pay the last months rent; reason being that the agency (who represent the Landlord) said to me 2 weeks ago that I HAD to put in my notice at the end of the month (the day I moved in and pay my rent on), and not before. So I can't afford to pay rent on 2 properties as the rent needs to go on my new property (naturally)
The agency has my deposit (£1000) and my rent is only £500.. so would it be much of an issue if I didn't pay? bearing in mind they will still have over £500 for any repairs etc that needed doing? and unless the place is a complete wreck (it isn't) then I think that will cover it?
Is this acceptable in my circumstances?
Any help on this please would be welcome.

Technically it's not acceptable. However I think most would do it In Your position.... but you didn't hear that from me0

No of course not. The deposit is not rent. If it were, it would not be registered in a deposit scheme.
The agent is wrong that notice has to be served AT the end of the month - it has to be served at or before the end of a tenancy period (which happens in your case to be the end of the month.).
But I fail to see why that error makes a difference. Irrespective of when exactly you served notice, the rent is still due until the tenancy ends.0 -
Is there a way to contact the landlord directly ? They might have people who would like to move in, and everybody wins.0

Agreed.
It will take them around a month to evict me anyway.. and I already have the keys to my new property. I could've left and not been honest enough to tell them.. but I'm honest enough to explain and see if they understand.0 -
Interesting interpretation of honest0

If you are as 'honest' as you claim, then prove it by paying the last month's rent (get an overdraft if necessary).0

Is it acceptable? No.
It is breaking a binding contract you agreed to saying you would pay rent upto the end of your tenancy (i.e. the end of a valid notice period.) The notice has to expire at the end of a period (ie. end of the month) so the agent saying serve notice at the end of the month has the same effect.
Is there anything that can be done? The money will be taken from your deposit and if rent + damages exceed the £1000 the current LL can sue you in court for the excess. You may get a poor reference from the LL/agent too.. you have somewhere to move into now, but the next place may ask the current LL.0 -
Agreed.

Why would they need to evict you? Don't you have somewhere else to be moving into?0 -

Given your other post no this is not acceptable it's highly likely the LL will have to buy new carpet which could be well above the remaining £500.0
