Fence Screening affecting neighbours TV signal?

Options
Hi all,

I recently put up some thatch screening on my wooden fence.

The neighbours are now complaining that they think this is affecting their TV signal?!

This sounds like madness to me! Is there any possiblity that the screening could have an effect?

From what I can ascertain, they have Sky/Freesat and the satelite cables (x2) do go through the end of the fence, near where I put up the screening, but it doesn't touch the cables and I didn't touch them when installing. The cables still appear connected.

Any advice welcome!

Thanks

People have problems with their TVs all the time, just a coincidence; check the cable is intact.
Doesn't Sky/Freesat come via a dish, perhaps you mean Virgin Media or Freeview?

Thanks. No I do mean Freesat/Sky, they weren't clear on which of the two it is but the cables connect to the satelite dish.

They're... eccentric at the best of times and I suspect this issue might be at least partly because they can no longer see into my garden!

Unless you've either damaged the cable or put up a 20 foot metal fence around their dish I can't really see that you can have caused the problem.

Does the dish still have a clear line of sight?

Tell them to call the provider and in the unlikely event that it is your fault you will pay for the call out and the damage.

It's unlikely to be your fault they probably know this and won't want to pay for a call out. If it is your fault then the right thing to do would be to sort it out.

If the fence didn't affect it I can't see how putting something on the fence would make a difference.

Trees opposite my sky dish affected the signal, so if the panel is in the way of the dish I can see how it might affect the signal..

    Thanks for the replies all.

The dish is a good 1.5 to 2m above the top of the fence, which doesn't block line of sight in any way!

I think I'll just have to ask for proof and as advised, ask an engineer to call out which I'll pay for if somehow my fault.

Are you happy with their cables going through your fence?

The cables really go around the edge of their house, and just slot through the end of the fence, so while they almost touch it, they don't really go through it as such.
