As I have said before, I work for a 3rd party phone company, and have to know the laws etc t go with them.

As they have not actually said they are from a network, they can't be reported to Ofcom, but it's really annoying getting these, I hate it, and our company doesn't do it at all, which I'm really grateful for. Just fancied adding that!!!!
Saving for a lovely summer holiday. Will it be Evesham or Egypt???
  • If in doubt with cold calls or text messages a useful tip is to enter the number or short code the call / text came from into www.google.com. This will often bring up other example discussions where people have posted on internet message boards about their own experience.

If in doubt you could also call your provider (e.g. Vodafone on 191) and ask a member of customer services to see if the call is a genuine one from Vodafone, they would then be able to check any notes on the account that may indicate an outbound call.

It also goes without saying, never give bank details or personal information out to an incoming caller (we've seen many examples on internet forums where people have fallen for scams and cons)

    :)
  • I called the number 0800 1987 777; gave all my details and chose one of three phones [nokia obviously  ). The guy on the other end, Steve, was pretty helpful. I paid £4.99 to have the phone delivered, and also am paying £40.00 every month for 18 months:eek:. The company say they will pay me £120 every quarter. The reason that they gave was that it is a trial for a new o2 tariff. Perhaps o2 are paying them to do some market research, however offering free phones to customers wouldn't be the most accurate way to see how many people would be prepared to pay £40 a month for this tariff. If it's a scam, then I am pretty screwed but I'm sure it will be fine, money isn't very important to me for happiness, makes me sound like a hippy or holier than thou :A but I'm sure it will be fine :money: You only live once so you might as well waste all your money while you can.

I had a similar deal with Three.

It is a really good deal. Works out that you get it all free so long as you don’t go over your allowance.

The way the company make their money is that they rely on people missing the deadlines for claiming their cash back. Even if you miss just one deadline then this voids the cash-back offer for the rest of the contract.

Several of my friends and family have done this and benefited from this. But one of my claims went missing half way through the last contract I had like this one, and I ended up losing out on the rest of the cash-back offer. I did complain to them about the claim being sent to them on time. They advised me to take it up with the Royal Mail. On contacting the royal mail they advised me that the most I could get to compensate my loss was £30 if it was sent recorded.

Strongly advise to check the Terms & Conditions on this one, and send your claims recorded delivery (so as the company cant deny receiving it).

I wouldn't sent your claim back by recorded as they say they will cover you for £30 !! Special delivery will cost about £4ish but your covered up to £500(so if there is a problem youll get most or your cash back) so for the little extra your covered that bit more , also SD is sent differently and is much safer and secure than a glorified postage stamp which recorded is !!

    Just my thoughts
  • Yesterday the phone arrived, a nice nokia 6300, brilliant. Registered it on o2's website. Not sure how to claim the cashback, no details were given except a couple of sheets with minimal information. I'm going to call the number in order to gain more information such as ts&cs but hopefully they will send me something else in the coming days in the form of an official contract... it would be slightly more reassuring :)

    so you got 1?
  • Cashback deals can be dodgy, depending on what company you go with, some are in it for the short term, offer as many contracts as possible and then close the company, others are more legitamite and will honor the cashback as mentioned at the point of sale, I have ordered my phone (for the last 2 years) from yes mobiles at www.yes-mobiles.co.uk/ last year it was a free PSP deal, which i received, and this year 18 months free on an 02 contract, (6 months in and i have received both cashback payments) it was reccomended to me by a close friend, and he also is now on his second contract with them, again, no problems! The worst scenario for anyone offered a free line rental deal is not to get your cashback, but if anyone knows of company's that do not honor the cashback it should be posted here, as then we will be aware where not to go!
