Nice first post. Thanks for posting, can you tell us a little bit more about the offer. What Tariff is it. what phones do you get offered. do they automatically send the cash back or do you have to claim? is it definitely Vodafone or a 3rd party selling a voda contract?

    NO it's a third party

I worked for Vodafone for over a year, and I now work for a 3rd party, but not one that do this dodgy stuff, and it's definately a third party.

I very often get this type of text and I ALWAYS call them and ask what company they are calling from, and make them tell me ho it is, I'm very stern like that though.

    I will find out.

    Ok

The Company is express Mobiles and the offer is 800 Mins and 500 texts via redemption on the O2 network, so means a new 18 month contract with O2

Also they will take anyone, i spoke to a rude girl called Claire, think I may have wound her up a little by asking what their business plan was etc and telling her it wasn't a very good one. I then said to her, so basically your trying to get people to leave vodafone and go onto O2, and she said no they weren't, so obv they were doing out of the goodness of their hearts, and I think that smells a little funny, she didn't like me much!!!!

  • Definitely sounds dodgy, I just received one of the text on my brand new company mobile, the full text says this verbatim including uppercase letters:

"VODAFONE CUSTOMER:YOU HAVE BEEN SELECTED FOR A COMPLETELY FREE PHONE WITH FREE LINE RENTAL + FREE CALLS 1ST COME 1ST SERVED.CALL FREE 0800 1987777 t&csapp"

It is obviously designed to make the recipient think it was from Vodafone, and they have been lucky enough to be chosen at random for a great offer. This is enough evidence for me to think it is not to be trusted.

A colleague of mine got stung by something similar when he was on Orange, some company rang him up offering him a new phone and lower rates, he signed up only to find it was a brand new contract on Three (it wasn't Three who rang him, just a reseller). He was still tied to his Orange contract, didn't want to be on Three, let alone a new contract. Took him over 3 months to get it properly cancelled, that's after getting in touch with the office of fair trading.

So I would suggest to avoid.

PS. I just rang the number pretending to be interested, as Spikie_01 said, it is Express Mobile offering a new contract on O2. I personally don't like the way they spam people's phones with a misleading advert and I recommend you avoid them too.
