Even if there were, I don't see how my situation should be penalized for it?

Well the headline is nonsense of course, it is just playing to the new sentiment of anti-property hoarding which has taken root because a property bubble has been allowed to get too big for too long, and too many are now excluded from owning a property of their own. They are penalizing your situation because they (The PTB) now want property on the market at a price that allows the market to clear, and FTB`ers to be able to have a shot at buying, because the voting figures are telling them that this needs to happen (to keep them in their jobs) The forces that cause people to get property on the market at a price that sells are going to be taxation and interest rate rises, and taxation is an easier (and safer) one for the government to tinker with IMO.

Er, because you're hoarding a scare resource? Shelter isn't discretionary expenditure and extra housing supply takes years to bring into the system.

Likelihood is that these homeless people (and this figure includes people in temporary accommodation) are costing local and government money to look after. It only seems fair to me that people who contribute to the lack of housing supply by hoarding more than they need (and aren't even utilising it by letting it out) should also contribute to the costs of solving the problem.

OP is in Scotland though, maybe that is their point? Bristol council authorities/government just need to get some council houses built if that is really the problem (I don`t believe it is that simple, and I don`t believe that the PTB want to increase the housing stock TBH) My point is that this is all part of a wider sentiment shift against overpriced/multiple/landlord owned property due to a credit bubble that was allowed (encouraged?) to get out of hand.
  • So there are at LEAST 9000 people sleeping on the streets of Bristol tonight?

I am more than aware that you are not the brightest - your constant predictions of house price doom are testament to that. I'm not going to bother with your glib comment above (life is far too short), other than to perhaps tell you the following.

My wife volunteers once a month at a shelter for vulnerable women. I don't know the exact address, it is given out only on a strictly need to know basis. Some of these women, and children, have been through the most appalling, harrowing abuse. Rape, violence, trafficking, prostitution, drugs - you name it. They do not sleep on the streets, and they are on the list for council housing. Your idiotic notion that being on a waiting list has a one to one relationship with homelessness only highlights your lack of intelligence.

OP apologies your thread has largely been hijacked - whenever Crashy Time appears this does tend to happen. The powers that be even set up a House Prices sub forum especially for these trolls, sadly CT can't even find that.

There definitely isn't a shortage of housing in the north east of Scotland right now. There are loads of properties up for sale and rent with prices reduced everywhere - hence the OP's current problem. Property is still selling in the area, but slowly, and sellers are finding that they have to take a hit on the value.

So we agree that there is no actual shortage of living space in the UK, and that the Supply and Demand argument is mostly false (or a notion dreamed up by people who paid too much for their property :)) ?

Ah, I see, it`s Aberdeen/North East, that makes sense now, the OP is facing a tax hit in a rapidly declining market and just can`t stomach the reality of the price drops needed to sell? In this instance it is just a case of get any price you can and get out of the bursting bubble IMO, at least you won`t be paying council tax/repairs on an empty property then?

OP I searched for your house on S1 Homes, Rightmove, Zoopla and On the Market and it didn't come up on any of them. Is the postcode on that listing correct? Try to find it yourself and see if I'm using the wrong search criteria.

Those are the main websites people use to look for properties, so if your house isn't on them you're at a massive disadvantage. Does your EA not advertise anywhere but their own site? If this is the case I would change agents ASAP, and ensure that they advertise on multiple property websites.

Although having the property on the sites you mention might help, most people looking for property in NE Scotland will use ASPC, and it's on there.

3 £250K+ houses for sale in my street - never seen that many at once - and don't seem to be moving, one at £15K below valuation having been reduced a couple of times. Looks like the oil downturn has now hit in the outside Aberdeen areas along with the council tax increases in bands E and above, Scottish income tax and maybe a bit of IndyRef2 putting everything on hold.

Op, would OIRO or FP instead of offers over make it a bit more attractive ? Also, IMO, get rid of those 2 wallpapered walls !

But what about those who are specifically looking for that area.

When we decided to move north we did not look at specific areas.

We used HSPC ( I don't think they are used now) to research a wide area as we had no particular place in mind.

We viewed houses from Perth to Wick.

Now that we are considering moving again we are using Rightmove for the same reason.
