I have emailed my local Mp in the first instance!

Your local MP has nothing to do with it - you should have emailed your local MSPs.

It's not really unfair though, is it? In times of a housing crisis you are sitting on an empty home. You are exactly the sort of person that this tax is trying to hit.

I think it's unfair that I have to pay income tax at a marginal rate of 62%. Many others disagree. Unfortunately, that's life.

As ever, life is about choices. You can reduce further, and guarantee a sale. Everything will sell for the right price.

I would be interested to hear of anywhere in Scotland, or the wider UK for that matter, where there is an actual physical shortage of houses? Although, as we have just voted to limit the numbers coming here, maybe there is?

So there are at LEAST 9000 people sleeping on the streets of Bristol tonight?

Even if there were, I don't see how my situation should be penalized for it?

First time poster, so apologies if this is in the wrong section!

To give a brief insight into my problem, I bought a second home in April last year and moved into it. I had to pay £7650 Additional Dwelling Supplement. My previous residence has been actively marketed for sale since not long after we moved out. I don't think it is fair that a tax that was designed to stop people owning/renting a second home is going to penalize myself and my partner.

It has never been and never will be our intention to own two homes or become landlords. Infact the property in question has had several price reductions (now £20,000 under valuation) to try to sell it, however the market has slowed significantly in our area.

From what I gather I stand to lose this payment if I don't sell my previous residence by September this year.

I believe I will one of the first people in this country to fall foul of this, and wondered if anyone was in the same boat or indeed could offer any advice?

    Thanks in Advance

    Billy

We have moved from a political landscape where HTB schemes were palatable politically (and helped the banks/developers by getting financially simple people into big debts they couldn`t otherwise afford) to a landscape where it is acceptable, even politically beneficial, to challenge the position of landlords/property owners, and milk them for tax. Sell up before it gets worse, if a 20k reduction doesn`t work, try a 40k reduction. IMO.

Er, because you're hoarding a scare resource? Shelter isn't discretionary expenditure and extra housing supply takes years to bring into the system.

Likelihood is that these homeless people (and this figure includes people in temporary accommodation) are costing local and government money to look after. It only seems fair to me that people who contribute to the lack of housing supply by hoarding more than they need (and aren't even utilising it by letting it out) should also contribute to the costs of solving the problem.
