"It's so difficult these days, in the lower price brackets, as feral families on benefits can afford to rent more expensive houses than I can afford to buy (which was the case with the feral I had a run in with last year that's since moved!). "

Max housing benefit is based on 30th percentile rents, but if your budget puts you in the bottom 30% ....

The only options seem to be:
    a) Look for a smaller house in a nicer area (which I think you are doing), or
    b) Move to a cheaper part of the country (which you don't really want to do).
I chose this house to be "in a nicer area", one with a universally well-known name for being nice, I thought "won't have trouble selling that as the area's got a good name" :)

The thing with benefits is where a couple are hitting the minimum work hours targets, they get loads of top ups and stuff that make it more affordable than it looks. Rents here are typically 1.5x what the LHA rate pays. Say £100/week difference.

I was lucky that Where's Wally's alcoholic parents decided the rent was too much for them (can buy more booze if they find somewhere cheaper), so they moved after a year :)

End of Tuesday, no offers.... I guess that's it for the week then.
    :)

    Nobody's rushed....

It's a good job I set out from the outset to not let any of this process put me under "stress"! I've done all I can, so no point "worrying" or "stressing" about it; that does nobody any good.

It's out there; it is what it is; the market is behaving how it is. End of the matter. Simple black/white stuff :)

    Nor here...

As a former benefit family, none of my boys were feral.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    Benefits families aren't feral.
Feral families tend to be on benefits :)

I actually think it is more to do with upbringing, you can get feral children even if the parents work (next door, I am looking at you!) and you can get decent children even when the parents don't work.

I think I am lucky where I am (apart from next door), majority social housing, a fair amount of benefits being claimed but no feral children (next door's ones have now become feral adults instead, thankfully they have moved out!).

It's so dead here, so boring yet the local gossip mongers would have you believe it is as rough as anything, nothing ever happens. The most excitement we get is the sound of lawn mowers out at the weekend.

That said, we all have very large back gardens for children to run about in and a park at the end of the road with play equipment and football facilities so no need to be out and about in the street....

The world's only just "got going" again after the holidays. I reckon.
At least as far as big stuff like buying houses is concerned.

I had an old photograph from when I was aged about 6-7, in a school group, so posted it on a local group for more names... and the names are coming in ... but, the more I looked at the photo, the more I realised "all those kids are so much smarter than me" ... there I am, at the back, wearing what I'd call normal kids' clothes, only, inspecting the photo, I realise that everybody else's clothes were bought and fitted them... and I think the hand-knitted cardigan I was wearing probably fitted me for another 3-4 years :) One is even wearing a shiny-buttoned, buttoned up jacket!

It's now all a bit embarrassing :) Thank goodness I was a bit "tucked away at the back" and not full frontal with my shabby-wear. :)

I so want the sun.... while this house has good light and shows up well for sun/light at certain times of the day, it's been pretty much dark, without sun, for nigh on two months now.

Today the sun put in its first appearance on my living room windows - for 15 minutes. Then it was gone for the day. I'm sitting here with the loo door open, view of the loo, as the sun's coming through that window .. but it'll be gone soon. Then it's back to "dark" again.... and by 5pm on any day the sun's completely out of sight, gone for the day.

Many's the day I've sat here, completely unaware that the sun's shining outside. That's why orientation and position on the plot, is of essential tick boxing on the next one!
