Do not buy a house that you can foresee is going to drive you nuts.

Just been going back through previous sales of houses in the area I'd "like". One looked fine on the first photo: 2-3 years old, garage on the side, car space in front of garage/house. Looking on streetview: house is on the original road and is part of a "new development". Behind the house there's all the allocated parking (potential for balls doofed against fence) ... and beside the house is a footpath for everybody to use to get into that parking space on foot, rather than having to walk another 8 doors up and enter through the vehicle entrance.
Looked good. Wouldn't do.0 -
I'm a bit concerned about the strange location. Too much of an unknown quantity. Combine that with the lack of conservatory, utility and garage and I would be crossing it off the list.
The strange location is a little disconcerting. It's a common enough feature these days as more and more people sell off the bottom of their gardens. It's "the most acceptable location" of the 3-4-5 new builds that've appeared along there in the last 3-4 years or so... but, well, "I dunno".
I am not a decision maker. But you do have to make a decision ... and if I sit and think about every house, then none of them are right on all fronts. None. There's not one house I've ever seen, probably, that says "Yes, this is it", at any price.
I was looking at £6million houses yesterday .... and I hated the way they're all "designed" and laid out ... and the finishes ... and even they had many issues0 -
Small "wins" .... neighbour thought herself smart putting her bin on my land ... binmen appear to have not returned it to her, so she'll have to go off hunting for it.
I, myself, went out to my gate, awaiting my bin to be returned (it usually is) ... but they'd mucked up their system and left mine 4 doors down. When the man saw me waiting for it ... he said as much then brought mine over.
I think, next week, I'll park my car there ... as a "hint" ... as she won't have room to put it there then .... see what she does, see if the penny drops...
At least, with the bin missing, I don't now have to face her and knock on her door .... she put it out well after dark, so I can just pretend I never saw it.
The proper procedure is: Drag the bin out of the gate, across 4 freehold strips (50 feet to this point), turn, drag it onto your own land/parking area. That's where it goes. Incorrect procedure is: Drag the bin out of the gate, leave it right there, on neighbour's freehold land where you only have the right to drag your bin over that area and where it's an inconvenience/nuisance for that neighbour and potential visitors to turn/park, especially if it's dark ... and where it could be "blown all over people's cars" in high winds.

Am a bit confused as to how a house has a bit of freehold land 50ft away from it.
I would assume that the parking area is divided up between the houses and each one has the freehold of their bit of it.
Much easier with a driveway, I just put my bin at the end of it. They never put it back there, though - they always take both my bin and my neighbour's one and load them both on the back of the wagon (2 lifts), then put both back on the pavement roughly halfway between the two gates.0 -
There comes a point in the sales process where you actually have a buyer for your house. The estate agent wants his commission, so he pressurises you into taking the offer. (PN, you said these agents are good closers, so remember they need to close both sides of the transaction.)
However, the point of this exercise is NOT to sell your house. The point is to move somewhere much better. Unless you can achieve that, don't sell. You can always sell another day or month or year, and I gather some of the chief causes of nuisance have now gone away, so the urgency has abated.No reliance should be placed on the above! It was lined up next to the gate - so only needed to be moved 2' through the gate.
I am a noise-free person, so nobody would've heard me.

If you're out you don't want the risk that it'll blow over/away, somebody else will nick it, or mess about with it.
I'm "first dibs" here for bins, a luxury I'll miss as it does mean you can put it out about 7.15ish (when you heard them) ... and whip it back in by 7.30 most mornings.0 -
