S0d's law. Boiler stopped working and is flashing lights. The lights indicate it needs more water, but I grabbed the two plastic taps to do that and they didn't move easily and I wasn't sure which way to turn them so I couldn't give them a hard tug in case one broke off in my hand
I had a plumber who was going to service the boiler, only it didn't happen - and I had other things to do so "left it" on the basis I knew how to get hold of him - so just messaged him on FB as that appears to be his preferred contact method.
EDIT: 4pm this afternoon he says0 -
If you RTFM'd, would it tell you which way to move the levers? It seems a bit profligate to get a plumber in to top the water up on the boiler. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

New bag fail .... it appears these gardening bags require a plastic piece to be threaded through the top "hem".... didn't expect that. I was doing it - very slowly/carefully, straightening the top hem as it went round, being careful .... and the bugg4h's snapped after 75% was in!
Why me?
Why does everything always go ... wrong ... break.... fail to perform..?
But - there are two - so I tried the other one. Oh so carefully again.... and the second one did exactly the same at exactly the same spot.0 -

The bags are perfectly good on their own as robust carrying bags.... do I need them to stand up on their own? They're a sort of plastic weave .... and putting this strip in the top allegedly makes them stand up on their own.
Hard to say.
I can go back now and get an exchange.... and do a quick small tip run.... so I'll mull over whether I CBA.
EDIT: I decided to leave it - I can put the broken bit through the other hole, where it almost meets the first half, so it still stands up.... that piece will always be doomed to breaking I figure, so I'll start off with a broken bit and just accept that's how life is.0 -

Surely when they are full of rubbish they will stand up on their own.
About to issue a posh alert as my woven green rubbish bag sounds similar but doesn't have any plastic bit to thread around the hem, though I think I paid more.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Yours is probably hand-woven and made entirely from sustainable, green, eco-materials and made available through Fairtrade to members of a shop such as John Lewis or Waitrose... donating 3p for every bag sold to save an orphan.0 -

I am very, very confused.
I have been trying to figure out how putting a piece of plastic through the top of the bag allows it to stand up.
Does it enable the bag to levitate or something?
If I put the plastic around my neck, would I levitate too?
If so, I'd pay £4 just for the bits of plastic!(I just lurve spiders!)

The bag is quite rigid, being of plastic weave. But folds, very like the material of Ikea bags, but weaved and thicker plastic.
The plastic strip provided is "self curled" and about 1/4" wide, like a nylon cable tie but wider/longer and curls round in a circle.
Once threaded through the top hem, it gives that top hem shape - and, by magic, the bag stands up on its own because the type/thickness of the plastic weave means the material isn't that flexible in its own right when it's being asked to stand about 2' high.
It's magic....0 -
