While I fully support this idea - and wish all my ancestors had done it religiously every year and that I had access to that, I doubt future generations (especially as I have no downline) will be interested to know that I sat on the sofa, occasionally went outside for a ciggy, drank lots of instant coffee and watched TV while posting on forums online.

    :)

Actually, on 12 May I am doing something VERY different, that I've not told NPs about. I had "planned" to go to the church where my GGG grandparents had married on that day 200 years ago.... but I'm going there this weekend instead as it turns out.

On the 12th I'll be .... well, I'll tell you either closer to the time, or afterwards. Weather depending, it could be a good day, or atrocious.

I don't think anyone in the future will be interested in me sitting on my sofa for four hours watching the Eurovision final:D
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Actually, Pastures, you're wrong........ it is the mundane things they are interested in.....after all, it is all those little things that make period films and series so interesting, isn't it?

They are logging all the little changes in activities, habits, chores, etc. that happen over the years.

They do also ask that you do say if the day has been an ordinary routine one, or something a bit out of the ordinary.

They also ask for your thoughts during the day, as well as what you are doing, whom you speak to, where you go, what you do. They want all those little details.

(Nb. it will be anonymous; they just want a rough profile e.g., age, sex, where you live, profession etc, but no names or addresses, not for this one-day diary, anyway.).

    See my previous post.

That's EXACTLY what they ARE interested in! :D

As well as your thoughts while you're watching it, what you're nibbling while you watch it, whom you're watching it with, etc.

One strange car boot purchase I've always regretted not buying was when I discovered a stall at the local car boot sale and there was a tiny notebook in it - and a woman had, during War Years/similar, jotted down all sorts of little diary events. Friends who'd called, lists of presents. All in tiny neat handwriting. I do wish I'd bought it!

The washing machine's gone.... off up the shop now to buy bark for the garden.

I feel like I'm living in a displaced persons' camp ....

I remember that feeling - six months or so surrounded by an ever increasing pile of boxes as I got all my stuff sorted, boxed up for taking or disposed of.

Now that's what I call a smart washing machine ;)

Shops/roads are busy, I just walked up the nearest shop to get something for lunch .... and it seems it's the day that people "take the afternoon off to take their old mum food shopping".

    :)

I think that's it then! I'm going to have a rest.

I don't blame you, it sounds like you've been at it like Billy Whizz ;)

I wanted to get a few bits in for the weekend and, since the shop seemed busy earlier, I didn't want to risk leaving it until I wanted to shop, only to find empty shelves and heaving aisles.... so I walked to all the shops on my list that sold the stuff I was after... so that was a 2 mile walk... which justified the chocolate covered peanuts and chocolate covered raisins I've come home with :)

I went out intending to get a 6-pack of Walkers C/O, but the shelf didn't have them, but they did have the latest promotional 6-packs, so I got one of those. There are two selections, I got the pack that contains 2 each of 1950's coronation chicken, 1960's roast lamb & mint, 1970's cheese fondue. Hope they're nice. Just £1 for the six packs.

I also got big bread rolls, so I feel I'm going into the long/hectic weekend with a whole bunch of "treats" and "that's not good for you" style food.

    Go me!

Sausage rolls for tea, in a bit.

    .

Gosh! They're all a bit out of date! :rotfl:

I would've picked a Wimpy as the flavour of the 60s, as that was the original hamburger thing, in England anyway.

I wonder what they'd pick as the flavour of the 80s?
    Or the 90s?
