Finally just got round to working out "what's wrong with the curtains?"

There was a curtain pole up, which I used as I can't go fitting new ones.... then I took aaaages to choose some curtains, first lot were the wrong colour that arrived (16 mile round trip to collect), second lot were the correct colour ... except when I got them home and got them up I realised two things: 1/ I didn't like that colour once it was up, 2/ The curtains were just "drab looking" and I hated them. But they were curtains and I'd got them so that was that.

Except .... on the left hand one the length was fine; on the right hand one it dragged on the floor ... so I used some hairgrips to loosely pin it up a bit .... looks !!!!!!, but what can you do?

So, it was either the curtain rail wasn't level, or the curtains were cut wrong. No point working that out as I wasn't really able to fix either of those problems, and I suspected it was the rail.

I just found a way to measure the height of the rail and it is out, it's 1" lower on the right. Bl00dy annoying that sort of thing.

Another job on the "odd jobs man list" .... if I ever find one.

If the rail doesn't look wonky, just leave the curtains pinned up!

It can be the new owner's problem, then! :D

(You're not alone...... I have some curtains pinned up with safety pins and paper clips! :D )

Lost the post I was going to quote.

About what percentage of retail price people will pay on Ebay. Read something about it once and the answer is high, higher than the cheapest place you can find online. Two reasons. Firstly not everyone researches properly, not everyone is near a favoured discount store, not everyone uses discount codes/ multi buy deals etc. Secondly, enough people have money in Paypal that is there for spending, that they don't want to withdraw into bank accounts or be used for anything that leaves a trail.

    Thanks.
It all arrived today, and was only sent yesterday!
It's jolly heavy. I haven't opened the outer box yet.

Oh dear, PayPal. I don't have an account. What fee do they charge?

Actually, forget that. I don't know how I'd send such a heavy thing to anyone. I would struggle to lift it. I might try Gumtree first and keep it local. Or my local paper's online ads.

I'll also have to think of something I would have liked to win instead, to buy with the proceeds, so that it doesn't just 'disappear', and then I can say I won that in a prize draw.
    Thinks, thinks.

I will probably open the attachment, to see if by some miracle it does fit my existing processor.

As a "beginner" to parcelling, you suddenly realise "Crikey, how will I wrap this, with what? how safe/secure is that? will it break? how much does it weigh? Where will I get a box to fit? And bubble wrap? .... and so on and on" - although you've probably got all the right gear as you've just received it.

In the main, there are couriers and RM that give prices based on maximum box size and weight. If it's under the box size and under the weight it's £X. But that's more research/faffing.

Then you start to worry about "being scammed" and sending stuff to strangers....

    And then you think .... Gumtree/FB :)

    It's a shame prizes offered don't also offer a cash alternative :)

I think for my packing I'd like some XL archive boxes. By 'eck they're a price. First look they come in at about £33 (probably +VAT +delivery) for 10.

Years ago I used to retain the A3 photocopier paper cardboard boxes from work. They all had a lid and I was in charge of photocopiers and so in a position where I could keep/take as many empty boxes and lids as I wanted. To try to find a local company that used that size and to ask them if I could have their empties, then to have to go and collect them ... to discover they were ripped, lids missing etc, isn't worth the time/hassle.

    It's weird.

I just tried an experiment and posted a random pic via postimage, and didn't get any girls' pictures, or any other advertising, for that matter, from the link. Strange.

I got "Page 404 not found" and adverts for cars!

I'm bad enough at wrapping in the first place but one Christmas my nieces both wanted particular toys which turned out to be a most irregular shape, with edges on the plastic that would cut wrapping paper. So I put em in suitable boxes and wrapped those.

I got the anticipated laugh when Francesca only opened the wrapping paper and asked, "Uncle Chis, why have you given me a box of cornflakes?" :rotfl:

The cause of the fire in Grenfell Tower was a washing machine.

I think it was a fridge actually.

ETA Sigh, should have read the full thread before posting :D

Ooh, forgot to say, our son-in-law (not the one with the Guide dog, I hasten to add :D) is at last, as of today, officially a Registered paediatric nurse :j

Lydia DGS has now been assessed for dyslexia and yes, he is dyslexic, as is his sister, though apparently hers is mild. Both children are extremely good at Maths though :D

    Well, a cabinet -maker!

I love wood, I love the smell of freshly cut and sawn wood, I love things made of wood, plus I really admire people that can make lovely things out of wood.
A musical cabinet-maker that liked etymology and dogs. That would be a dream! ;););)
    Edit..... without a beard! ;);)

Like the "home style" magazines you read in the dentist's waiting room, which have a couple showing off their beautiful refurbished home and it turns out that "Luckily, Paul's father is a kitchen fitter" and, of course, he put their kitchen in for them for free. Sigh :(
