That was always my plan, but then there's the struggle of some decision making about "exactly what do you want" - and then finding/contacting people, waiting in for them, to get a quote, that you might then not be able to afford... so you google and find people suggesting all sorts of other ideas/solutions .... and then time's passed and you're really not sure now what you want, or if you can precisely describe it ... and can't guess what the costs might be.

But there's always next week ..... and it doesn't happen.

I've got alcoves perfect for boxing in. But then what... sliding doors? or open? or with a curtain? Adjustable shelves, cut to fit, or Ikea pax as a basis and get a little man to build those instead ... and is that what you want ... and what size slots/how high should the hanging rail be... and so on and so on.

Too much indecision and questions really. You never get "help" like on the telly where a show shows you somebody "designing" it with you... unless you've VERY deep pockets.

Just this morning I was thinking "so shall I get a little man to fit a top shelf up there, with a hanging rail under and a "curtain pole fixing" somewhere at the front, at the height that exactly matches voiles I can buy "in any cheap shop" ... and then I thought "no"....

If one could simply stand in front of the space, discuss the ideas, choose .... then walk away and it happens by magic, affordably, it'd be done. But life's not like that is it :) Unless you marry a joiner.

Aaaah! To marry a joiner! Sigh!
    Well, a cabinet -maker!

I love wood, I love the smell of freshly cut and sawn wood, I love things made of wood, plus I really admire people that can make lovely things out of wood.
A musical cabinet-maker that liked etymology and dogs. That would be a dream! ;););)
    Edit..... without a beard! ;);)

    Absolutely non negotiable.
Gross and creepy things. Nasty, nasty, nasty .... eeeew.
I struggle to even be in conversation with somebody that has one, or even watch them on the telly :)

I've a massively wild aversion to them.

If I were out, say, at a food festival, choosing between two stalls of what to eat, I'd dismiss anybody selling food who had a beard.... can't eat if it's been served by a nasty beard.

    Don't like beards either.

Someone suggested replacing the heavy concrete blocks in washing machines to keep them still when spinning with plastic tanks that could be filled once the machine was in place and emptied if they ever need to be moved.
    I think....

Just did it again ... lots of nothing.

Earlier I'd opened a box and in that box were "electronic type things", so I'd shut the lid and walked away. Each of those really needs to be "packed/wrapped" in some way before being "packed up".

I just went upstairs again and spotted the original box for one of those things, so I took the box and put that box on top of the other box ... so at some point I can pack that thing in its original box.

It was a solar/PIR light I'd bought when I first moved in, but once I got it home I realised I couldn't use it as it needed "fixing" to something like a wall... so I'd put it aside for the magical day when I had somebody that could do that.

House is full of these "good intentions and ideas" that never happen because I don't have the skills, knowledge, ability to actually install things. All "handy" to have .... if you've got "a little man" to do the fixing... they don't sell those in the shops though.

I've decided against getting the paint today .... I'd be getting ahead of myself. I need to really try to concentrate and decide on packing. Pack what, how, in what, with what - and where do you put it once you've done that?

    So hard....

An idea might be to sort the things you want to get rid of first.

Either to sell, or give to charity shops, or to the tip.

Once you've got rid of stuff you don't want/need, even if it isn't all that much, then you'll know that what's left is to be 'stored' (i.e. packed ready for moving or storage) or left out because you need it at the moment.

And cardinal rule that will save mountains and mountains of grief................make a list of EVERYTHING that goes into a particular box, number the list and number the box, and whatever you do, don't seal the box until just before it goes into storage or you move, because you will always, always, want to get something out or put something else in.

Take your time. There's no rush.

I'm still deciding what to decide ... my plan was to box up stuff, stack it (er, where?) and then, with more floor space available, to start piles of stuff to go to X, Y and Z. Then I can go round holding things, choosing a pile and putting it on the pile.

I get overwhelmed and feel unable to "just do it/just start" because, as I hold any item, I am unsure what I want to do. Pack it, pack it now or later, car boot it, FB it .... so I put it back down :)

Re list. Yeah, I do plan to do that, then you see the volume of data to be dealt with .... and wish it could be done easier than writing it down, then typing it up.... I guess it'd be a job for a pad/tablet thingy maybe, taking a photo... but I can't take photos else they'd need sorting out - and my PC wouldn't hold them all ... so then is it a new piece of kit to buy ... or a new Ext HDD .... so then I sit down again :)

I've been trying to get hold of the local/large auction rooms, unsuccessfully. I'll try phoning them again. I've got some stuff I could just drop off there, if that's how it works - they don't tell you online how it works.... there's an auction today and you can't even see what's for sale, nor do they tell you if you can physically attend any more or if it's all just online now.

EDIT: Just phoned them again, answerphone, again. It's a business, a proper business, so I don't like to leave messages on answerphones as I don't want the "interruption" randomly when they choose to ring back and I will probably be in the middle of something else and rush to grab the phone, stub my toe, then find they gave up just before I answered it :)

I don't think most people realise how hard it is to work with an "addled brain". You get stuck in a loop of indecision and the inability to move forward.

Still nothing on the stool, nobody's asked about it .... and it's filled the boot of my car, so I might have to get it back out. I expected to hear something, that somebody want to ask about it, or want it, or offer on it and it'd be gone ... and then where do I put it. It'll end up in here, cluttering up the floor space as I struggle to get it up/down the stairs due to its proportions and my cr4pness at carrying items (a form of dyspraxia + short arms).

Last item I put on FB to flog, which "owed me" £50 (another ill-informed, mis-guided, mis-purchase on my part) almost flew out of the door at about £55! So I expected this low value item to be more popular/desired.

EDIT: Just had another go, so parcel taped up one of the small packing boxes and thought "right, books". But then I hooked one out thinking "always meant to sell you so I'll see what your value is and weigh you" .... only I've lost my glasses ... I had them on a minute ago. And, if that weren't enough, I'm only using that pair as I lost the usual pair yesterday. So somewhere, within 20' of where I'm sitting, there are two pairs of £1 reading glasses to find.

EDIT: Found a pair. They were on top of a box, where I'd put them down when I was sitting on the floor and I was putting the books into the box. Stood up and they were out of sight again :)

EDIT: Well that was a dead loss... couldn't really find it from the ISBN number. I'll stick it in the box to deal with at my next house .... which is what I said in about 2007 when I first packed it up.

Packed a few more books into that box and I think that box won't quite be large enough to hold all of them .... why does that always happen? I'll end up with 3-4 books left over, which is no good.

I randomly emptied two drawers of clothes into vacuum bags and sealed those... and I got through to the auction house, who said just to bring the stuff I want to auction down to them any day ... and they put it through two sales. I'll do that ... as soon as the seat's flogged, which is filling my car at the moment, so I've just halved the price of that on the FB page, although I can never find/see my own advert when I look at the FB selling page, I have to search for it... so not sure why that is.

I am just so "stuck" on so many levels, items ... add in my indecision and I feel I'm just f4rting in the wind.
