it turned out not to be the bulb, or the fuse. OH managed to remove the base and a couple of wires are burnt out. We'll ask DS to have a look at it later (when he gets up after a night clubbing) as he's an electrician and will know if it's fixable, and if so, he'll be able to fix it.

I must say though that I've been using it for many hours a day, for probably more than two years. I think it was actually from Express Selection or Easylife - the same company using more than one name iyswim. OH is a terror for catalogues and quite often orders stuff which we don't need and which often turns out to be tat as Chris says, but I do need a good lamp. i'm waiting for a cataract op.
There's a very expensive brand called Serious Readers, which are horrendously pricey but they are probably made by exactly the same method....

My screen is already set at maximum brightness!

I looked at those a few times, and was seriously tempted, but then read some terrible reviews, so decided not to chance it..

I use a reading lamp with a daylight bulb........ but it's got no name on it. Got it from a catalogue. I've been pleased with it. I'll see if I can identify it. (They do stand ones and desktop ones).

    Edit......

    It's called Lifemax. https://www.lifemaxuk.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=Reading+lamps

However, the one on the website is slightly different from mine, but I've had mine a few years. Also, mine is chrome, but they don't seem to do a chrome floor one, which is surprising.

It's not the most stylish lamp in the world, but it does the job, and for the price was a good buy.

Believe it or not, my lamp is their LED beige floor lamp (only, mine is white iyswim)! And the bulb that's the third item on the top line when you click on the link is the bulb mine uses.

ETA it wasn't bought directly from them, but definitely the same.

How odd, the website doesn't show you the price of each item!

    Goodness, where is everyone?

I've just been attempting to claim my state pension. Unfortunately the newly redesigned online form is definitely not aimed at people who've lived abroad and then come back and then gone abroad again.....nor will it accept that you may have lived in the same country during more than one period of time
So I suppose I'll have to try to ring them tomorrow and do it over the phone, and I hate using the phone :o:( I've also just put in a claim for NI credits for the years I was overseas as a military wife, so I may have to wait until that's been dealt with in any case. it's all very confusing.
OH claimed his state pension a couple of months ago, but the form was different then, and there was a page of "Notes" to download, (no longer there), and he had no problem at all!

My router/internet connection went awol for a lot of today, plus I was preparing and cooking vegetables, and then trying to do something with my surfeit of bananas that didn't involve milk, eggs or flour!

And all of a sudden it was 8.45pm!

The forward hour has been interfering with my sleep pattern now.......the staying awake longer meaning that I don't want to wake up at my usual early time. :(

What would you call this dish?:

    Parsnips, carrots, onion, and apple.

All shredded, then mixed together with some oil, some seasoning, some breadcrumbs (or matzah meal, depending on the time of year), with an egg to bind it. Then baked in a hot oven for 30 minutes.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

... "stuff mixed up and baked" ...

Not everything needs a name. Sometimes it's just "food" :)

It's like a potato cake, but without potato .... probably "seasonal vegetable cakes". Or "food" :) "Hot food".

    :)
