If you ever need a new hobby: Transcribe ALL of those diaries, in full :)

If you ever win the mega millions, pay me to do it. I've seen a couple of pages and it's "fairly readable". But probably 20-30 years' work... have to do a couple of years to see the speed of it all.

I see they didn't like their brother's wife "Charlotte" - she had bad teeth and was "beneath them" .... do you know how they met/why he married her? He must've met plenty of paupers before, so she wasn't a novelty bride .... was it a drunken bet maybe?

I hadn’t realised how expensive you are!

We don't know because Emily & Ellen didn't know. He went out to Australia IIRC, and came back with a wife without having told them about an engagement or anything. It caused a huge commotion in the family. I don't know that she was exactly a pauper, just not from "the right kind of family". I imagine he found snobby social distinctions less important in Australia than he'd been brought up to consider them back home, and married someone he fell in love with, but I'm only guessing. Emily & Ellen pretty much cut their connection with him over it. As I said, they really weren't very nice.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

As a child, I used to pronounce Dr. Dolittle as Dr. Dolly-tle.

I was always finding words and names in print, and interpreting their pronunciation in odd ways.

    Like Wizard of Ounce.

I do the same these days with some of the usernames on here. It can be months or longer before it dawns on me what the right wat to pronounce them might be.

For example, michaels is a plural Michael. I don't know if you're supposed to be michael S? :D

And chris_m rhymes with prism. :D

    Loads more on other threads!

Hello peops! I'm back from an exhausting but very rewarding four days of AmDram workshops, competitions et al., in which yours truly has climbed steep hills, dressed up in weird wigs, sung her heart out and watched loads of incredibly talented amateur acts.
There's a lorra lorra talent out there! :)

And now in bed starting to recover!

I'll need to catch up with the thread, though.

michaels is actually posesive, it is michael's user name

I have done an awful lot of standing in the cold this weekend, Sat AM football matches were staggered so I was able to watch both DD2 and DS although I had to miss DD1 so she will get first dibs next week. Then today when it was even colder DD2 played up for the year 8 netball team at 9.30 and for her year 7 team at 11.30.

Never sure Pyxis, if you are pronounced pie-kiss or pixies.

I once refused to work for a client, who was completely mad. He had changed his first name from Alan to Alans, and it became apparent whilst talking to him, that there were unfortunately at least two Alans in the one body.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I think you will find that dicriminiating against someone based on their mental health status is illegal.

I always think of it as pix iss

I discriminated against him because the paperwork showed that he ended up suing everybody who tried to help him.
