And, changing the subject, do any NP have advice for removing a pale green sort of mould from the inside of a beautiful antique chest of drawers that has been kept in a poorly insulated and inadequately heated house for decades and is shortly about to get moved somewhere warmer and drier? Or should I ask on the "in my home" forum?

I suspect the mould is the least of your problems. A quick wipe with soap and water will probably sort it out. Possibly add a little white vinegar to help kill the mould.

I once had to deal with a fridge that had been unplugged but left full of food for a couple of months. That had mould growing that was easy enough to wash off, but it did stain the plastic.

I'd be much more worried about the wood warping and cracking as it dries out. These cold, damp houses are apparently excellent for antique furniture, whilst central heating is terrible! I definitely think you should get advice about that if the piece is important to you.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I do sometimes wonder if bringing him into this world has caused him more sadness, before he wasn't aware of anything around him or his differences, now he is only too aware of how different he is and he absolutely hates it.

As a human being, he is realising his potential at last but as an aware person, he struggles.

Ok, I'm watching from afar here, so tell me to shut up if you like. But I think part of Joe's issue is not just that he's different in aspie terms, he's also different in exceptionally high IQ terms, so he is fighting being different on not one, but two fronts.

He can get help for the first from another aspie, but they won't always get the second. Nevertheless, it is these rare and gifted individuals who because of their way of thinking and challenging the status quo, actually go on to change the world.

I have always been inspired by your stories re youngest. He's an amazing young man that anyone would be privileged to know. I can't wait to hear more in the future as he reaches his potential.

And speaking of potential, good luck for Sunday Sue. Go ace it!

Actually, Sue, may I have his signature? Then when he's a famous scientist, inventor, discoverer of the answer to unlimited free world energy, builder of the first very-high-functioning robot, warp drive, or similar, I can trot it out and amaze people! :D

Even so, there's some exaggeration involved, as SC said "many light years", and Alpha Centauri is only 4 light years.

Oh silly me! Did I say Alpha Centauri? I was thinking of another silvery person!

I did, of course, mean Epsilon Eridani.

    A conundrum.

The car door has a scratch and a couple of small dents. The guy who did it admits liability and wants it to go to a small local repairer outside insurance. We have got quote from the two local garages he recomended, chips away and a big insurance repairer. The quotes are 300, 420, 700 and 1600! The car is 2.5 years old and worth about 8k. Should we let it go to one of the two low quote local garages or insist on a insurance company level price which will no doubt result in it going through insurance, our insurance co being notified, our renewal premium impacted and potentially a protracted battle for us to get our excess back. Thoughts?
    I think....

Would you still have to declare it at your next renewal? I mean, if you have to declare everything, even no-fault things like this, then you might as well just tell the insurers now, but also tell them about the different quotes, and how you're happy to accept one of the lower quotes, (assuming you are, of course).

I would agree with your observations, he doesn't feel as if he has anything in common with his peers and gets really quite frustrated with them when they want to do the normal teenage stuff or they discount knowing about historical events, politics etc as not important.

He thinks alcohol is a waste of money and brain space, partying another waste of money, energy and brain space. They in return think he is far too serious and will tease him about it.

To him education is paramount and everything else can wait until he has finished with it and reached his goal.

N.B Just as a small correction, he isn't an aspie, he is a complex autistic (Josh is aspie). It doesn't sound like much of a difference as they are both an Autistic spectrum disorder but believe me, it's like chalk and cheese between the two.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I had a look at one of the Autistic Quotient 'quizzes', but wasn't very impressed.

There were far to many questions that I couldn't answer in black and white terms, as so very much depends on what the actual situation is.

I know they aren't diagnostic, but I felt they might be misleading, unless you're very much at one end or t'other, and then you probably wouldn't need to do it anyway!
