In London we used to live just around a fast corner and just before moving up here I had an almost new S-Max written off when hit from the side as it had bent part of the integral structure of the car. I believe the car you have (if you still have it, don't want to post the model here even though I know you have in the past) is also one big lump of metal with doors on it, so it's likely to be similarly difficult to fix.
It did go through as a non-fault claim after a lot of arguing as he was driving a lot faster than 30mph.......
I hope you've got it sorted out so you can do what you need to do tomorrow, and sending hugs to you and DD.
It's a C-Max, so probably very similar to the S-Max. He wasn't speeding, but it was clearly my right of way. I was going along the main road, and he was pulling out of a side turning.
Thanks for the hugs.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

That's what I thought you drove. I think the underneath is partly integrated into the shell like the S-Max, so I'd take a guess it will be written off.
Good to know that the battle I had with the insurers hopefully won't be affecting you though regards fault, and I hope it gets sorted quickly.
And you're welcome for the hugs, sounds like you need them💙💛 💔0 -
Agree with all of that in general but in this case I don't think the man was being irresponsible. It was a very awkward junction and he made a mistake and just didn't see me. I'm human too, and however hard I try I don't succeed in driving perfectly.
That's fair enough.
As you say, everyone makes mistakes from time to time.
On a musical note, one of the workshop sessions I was in at the weekend taught us to sing a Jewish Hanukkah song, in parts, in Hebrew!
That made my brain work!

Most cars nowadays are a monocoque construction, only some sports cars (things like Morgans) still have a chassis to which the body is fixed.
As to whether or not one is deemed uneconomical to repair depends on the extent and location of the damage. Distorted parts can be cut out and replaced but it also depends on how much the impact force has distorted other parts not actually in the impact area.0 -
Phoned my insurance company last night. They said their 24 hour line only deals with accidents where you can't carry on driving your car and need rescuing from the roadside. The claims department that could organise me a hire car won't be open until 9am this morning. I looked up the other driver's company online, and found that their head office opens at 8am. Just phoned them. Helpful woman in HR told me that the person who deals with cars is stuck in traffic and going to be a little late in this morning, but will call me back soon.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? If the car is driveable, the least stressful option is probably just to drive it. You could take it to your garage to get it checked over, and they can tell you whether it can be driven at normal speeds.
*All* reasonable costs are the responsibility of the other driver and his insurers. You don’t need their prior permission. If you need to hire a car, then do so and charge the other driver.
The point is that you don't need to ring anyone for their say so. As to writing off the car, that’s your decision. But you can only expect the other driver to pay the lower of repair costs and value of the car. It might still be worth getting it repaired, even if the other driver does not pay 100% of the repair bill.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Oh, and if you claim on your insurance, your premiums will go up. So, don’t! Claim from the other driver. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Woken at 6.30 am to the most godawful boom that went on for ages and ages, caravan shook with the sound coming up from the ground. First thought was Earthquake. Second thought was Trump started nuclear war.
Went online to see we'd had about 7 lightning strikes close to us, nearest was on the headland above Porth Ceriad, so *very* near. Been a few strikes over the mainland since, but fingers crossed that's it for a few hours. We're expecting the wind around midday, though breeze is just beginning to get up a little.
Wouldn't surprise me if we lost power with the combination of gale force winds and heavy rain. In which case we'll prob get off home tomorrow. At least we have a gas fire and gas cooker..0
