Nikkster, your half marathon is great in so many ways. I hope your friend enjoyed meeting up with a new chum. New friendships can be life enhancing for all concerned.

So I have this question that's been burning away in me for an age.
Why do virtually all chip shops stock Pukka pies to the exclusion of all others?0 -
Whatsisface, the film reviewer on TV, said he didn't recommend people go and see it unless they'd seen the other films first.
I've not seen any.
Joe went to see it without seeing the original, he said he spent most of the film confused but that it was still a very good film.
I have seen the original but would probably still be confused as my memory is not what it was!:rotfl:We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Oh Sue, so sad to hear of this horrible episode. Once again your resilience and coping skills open closed doors for your sons. Well done, you are brilliant. I am full of admiration.
Aww thanks Spirit.... not sure I actually coped though, more like wanted to scream with frustration and I did a lot of bursting into tears at the most embarrasing of times.
I have to admit to feeling quite bruised mentally over it all and in fact, I almost made an appointment to see my doctor last week as I was concerned that I was on the slippery slope back into a bad mental state but for the moment, I am just about holding on.We made it! They don't.... their influence will depend on where you live.
The Pukka deal though is that they used to have good marketing aids - and the chippy owners would sign exclusive deals with pie suppliers. There was no call for chippy owners to stock many pies, they just needed one good regular supplier. Pukka supplied them with branded pie warming ovens for their counter-tops, branded wall clocks, branded "OPEN" lit signs, branded "OPEN/CLOSED" door signs - and more. It was easier to persuade owners to sign up ... and then the pain of changing suppliers would become too much.
They were also the best pies available back in the day - although other areas of the country have Hollands as a strong contender.
These days I find the pastry less tasty and the sauce less moist. I was a HUGE (In both senses of the word) fan of Pukka back in the day, I eat them still now, at the right price - but rarely from chip shops because they no longer cook/serve them correctly. I believe that it's possible to "grass up" a bad Pukka pie venue and the firm will pay them a visit and threaten to pull the contract. e.g. they should be cooked, then put into the proper pie warmer -not- nuked until soggy, then rolled in the same bag with the chips ...and getting squashed. I went right off them when I was being asked to pay £2.50 for a greasy flat rolled pie!0 -

Well I won't be going to see it - having seen all the hype about it I decided I'd better watch the original, which I've had recorded for ages and not got around to watching.
I wasn't impressed, I'm afraid. The effects were good, as was the music. Even the plot was reasonable but it just seemed so tedious.0 -

And do remember that there's always here to let it out, either on the thread itself, or by PM or there's the other thread that I know you know about, where you'll get support.
Big ((((((((hugs)))))))) anyway!
And just remember, you're a marvel!
Re. pies, I don't eat a lot of pies, but I quite like the Higgidy pies, and there's another one I like that the supermarkets stock, but I can't remember the name off-hand.
I think the beef one was called Moo-pie, or is that the Higgidy one?
Edit.... just googled Moo pie....... it's Pieminster........ they are very nice pies indeed! Nice pastry.
As far as I'm concerned, the definition of a nice pie is all in the pastry. It's got to be firm and ........ can't think of the right adjective for pastry....... not crunchy, but you know what I mean!
(I woke at 2am, and didn't get much more sleep between then and 6am so am feeling a bit punch-drunk).(I just lurve spiders!)

I'm not really a pie person, though I did like a Heidi pie form Pieminster with goats cheese, sweet potato and spinach.
Bit worrying for my dog Heidi though, living in constant fear of becoming a pie filling.:rotfl:0 -

Yes, that's a nice one! I love the names they give their pies. And the inside of the packaging is full of nice tales!
Now I want pie.(I just lurve spiders!)

Your coping skills, including crying (it is a release) got a successful resolution for Josh, coping doesn't mean you don't feel bruises. it means you find a way to bear the bruises and do what is necessary until it is safe to get the bruises checked over and treated. Including getting medical advice.0
