    Wide awake club!

Mother-in-law had stents put in last week, she’s doing fine.

Husband decides he occasionally gets chest pain and gets checked out. GP refers him to local hospital where they run some tests, say he sounds fine but will make an appointment for a scan. Appointment arrives for 6 weeks time.
Husband’s friend persuaded him to use his PHI and not wait around. Goes to consultant Tuesday. All seems fine but will arrange for scan and stress test as a precaution. Scanned on Thursday, stress test yesterday. Consultant on the phone last night, 2 seriously blocked arteries. Immediately on beta blockers, blood thinners, aspirin. No tea, coffee, fizzy drinks or exercise, must stay rested.
Healthy (or so we thought) 55 year old, exercises, eats healthy, walks a lot, BMI under 20. Ticking time bomb apparently.
Stents booked in for Tuesday, meeting consultant again today.

    Slightly shocked!

When dad went in for his heart attack there was a man in the bed opposite, a health freak, was part of a running club, didn't smoke or drink and never had done and in his 30s, yet he too had had a heart attack.

Sometimes you can do all the right things and still have issues.

Hope all goes well for him and at least he took his friend's advice and got seen sooner, I bet your stress levels are through the roof!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Sounds very stressful for both of you but I guess at least it is getting sorted.

Sometimes I think we under screen in this country with the NHS so focussed on fixing that prevention is overlooked.
    I think....

Not surprised you were in the Wide Awake Club silvercar! Sending the Vibes to your Husband, and to you as well as I'm sure you need them too.

Hope today's consultation went well. I'll be thinking of you both on Tuesday.

With best wishes and cyber-hugs from Bwlchtocyn.

After my op on Monday, they discharged me with 28 codeine tablets. I didn't take any of them.

About 15 to 30 tablets is a fatal dose. So, this is a responsibility.

So, what's to be done with them? Obviously I can hand them to a pharmacist to put in the bin, but I can put them in my own bin. Is there anything constructive I can do with these? Or just dispose of them and be done with the beastly things?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I never throw away medicines, just in case I need them in the future.

The idea of a pharmacist binning them rather than you, is that there is less risk of a random bin scavenger accidentally overdosing, man or beast.

I always keep medicines, too. But I've never had to worry about a fatal dose of opiates before.

If I were a druggie, I'd be scavenging the pharmacist's bin, not mine. :)

I was reading the Knowledge; a handbook about what to do if a plague or other catastrophe wipes out civilisation and how to rebuild everything as quickly and safely as possible

It's a general science book about self-reliance but full of advice like moving to the countryside because houses there still have chimneys and you'll be chopping up and burning wood for heating at some point.

Reading it you'l regret every time you threw away unused medicine. They're chemically very stable, and one of the first things we'd miss if the brown stuff hit the fan.

Given that the average home probably has enough paracetamol to administer a fatal dose, I wouldn’t worry to much.

When my parent passed away there was enough liquid morphine in their house to do serious damage. The local pharmacy refused to take it as they couldn’t guarantee safe disposal and directed me to a different pharmacy that offered druggie services like needle disposal, apparently that is a sign they are set up to dispose of stronger drugs.

GDB It was a good story even if it wasn't yours :D Glad your second op is out of the way. When would they hope to do the other one?
