This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy but dry and much cooler.
DH and I up enjoying first peaceful cuppas, he's now getting ready for work, I'll have some time on here. Both boys still in there pits, will leave them to have a lie-in.
Dinner last night was pork steaks, mash, cauli in cheese sauce, carrots, broc, peas and gravy, lovely it was too, felt like we haven't had a proper meal this week due to the intense heat and finding alternative quick and easy meals. Tonight we'll be having roast chicken portions, pizza, onion rings, new potatoes, kebabs, salad, coleslaw etc.
I was reasonably productive yesterday after I'd got the food shopping done, I did do some housework, changed a bed, cleaned both bathrooms and DS2 hoovered the downstairs, whilst I tackled the ironing pile. There's a load ready to go out on the line this morning, I'll water the plants at the same time.
I'm feeling somewhat brighter as I purposely kept myself busy yesterday, and it helps so much, I was also tired as I had barely slept the night before, I started to get a headache but purely due to tiredness, so once we'd had dinner and I'd got changed I stayed downstairs a while but went to bed early and I just remember getting into bed, then waking up this morning, so the sleep was obviously needed. I feel so much better this morning.
So today - I'll be heading to town to visit the building society and bank, then a quick visit to my sister's as my nephew is 18 today, to take his card and prezzie.
I may do some baking when i get home, I'll see how the time goes.
Keep safe and well x

Good Morning all,and thanks NMLC for kick starting the day. Slightly cooler this morning which is a relief after the scorching heat of this week.Nice to get a bit of fresher air for a change.
This morning I am dropping DGS Jack off at work (saves him some pennies on the bus fare which is quite expensive where we live) and will pop into the precinct where he works and get some euros for DGD Holly's birthday,as she and her b/f are off to Malta next month on holiday .
At 24 she is a bit difficult to buy for as she is very much a fashionista and has so many clothes etc its easier to give her some currency so she can treat herself on holiday.
Then I have a quick visit to my friends coffee morning at her church on the way home for a nice cuppa and some HM cake(I always support her when they have one as its only a tiny church) and relies on local people for funds. The charities they help fund are usually also tiny ones who need every penny.
Then I will go back to Dds and pick up my son-in-law and take him into Sittingbourne to Aldi's to get their shopping I want a few things myself to tide me over until the end of the month. DD is working today and I don't mind giving him a lift as I am going anyway so doubling up saves on fuel. He does it for me now and again.
With luck I shall be back by lunchtime and then after lunch if its not too warm I shall do some ironing and watch a film on catch-up. I'm living the life today :):) :):)
DD had soem more deep massage for her plantar Facillis yesterday and has another session in two weeks but the physio lady says its possible she will need steroid injections as her feet really are in a bit of a state and she is having quite a bit of pain. She has inserts plus strapping just to enable her to keep going at the moment and being an estate agent she is on her feet quite a bit in and out of the office on viewing and valuations. She has had this ongoing problem for about 10 months now and its not really getting better.Bless her she is always so busy and yet puts herself last when it comes to looking after herself.I was hoping she wouldn't need the injections as they are quite painful apparently, but we will have to wait and see.
I hope you all have a peaceful week end and if you are celebrating a birthday you get thoroughly spoiled :) <<hugs >> for those going through a tough time :) <<hugs >> for those going through a tough time
take care all

            Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc.
Hugs to anyone in need.
CHS is working this morning so we're up and ready to go.
I need to do some shopping (a daily thing now with such a tiny fridge freezer) then I'm collecting DGD and we will spend the afternoon sewing, I going to see if she's like to learn how to use my sewing machine.
There is extra housework to do as there was a huge bonfire nearby and every surface inside and outside the boat is covered in a fine layer of ash and smuts.
I took DD1 for her pre-op assessment yesterday, I was supposed to be looking after the children but she had car problems, so instead I drove her to Basingstoke and back. I left work at 2 and finally got home at 7:30, I was in bed and asleep by 9:30 and slept through until 6 this morning.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0

Morning all and thank you for the thread nmlc.
I wrote a longish post but it has been eaten by the Internet and cba doing it again.
Not doing anything interesting thus weekend and anyhow am keeping spending to a minimum as have to go out for two meals next week. I cooked delicious but unhealthy southern fried chicken last night, bit of a mess in the kitchen from doing the 3 different layers of coating but kitchen needs a bit of a blitz anyway.
I'm starting to sleep a bit better now that things have cooled down. For the first time in a week, I slept in the bed rather than on it.
JackieO I am having a bout of plantar fascitis too but nowhere near as bad as the first ever one I had. I have at least learnt that mine will come and go, it isn't permanent for me and hope your daughter's problem with it is sorted soon. I'm still struggling with a wonky knee, At least that's the other leg. I'm keeping it mobile and doing knee and ankle exercises.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possibleI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0

            Morning everyone,
Thank you for starting us off nmlc
nmlc I'm glad that you are feeling better this morning,
I had a good night’s sleep at long last, now it’s cooled down a bit. It’s certainly much more comfortable for sleeping than it was earlier in the week.
Today I intend to have a quiet day reading and catching up on a few TV programmes that I recorded and I may go for a walk around the park this afternoon.
There is a food festival on today and tomorrow and I’m going to have a look around with a friend either today or tomorrow. I enjoyed it last year so I am looking forward to that.
I have stripped the bed and got the bedding in the WM so that can go out on the line as soon as it’s finished, and I have enough for one more load, so I may get that done today and out of the way.
I seem to have let my tea go cold again, so I’m going to go and make another one.
I hope that you all have a good day whatever you are doing.0

            Good morning all.
Yesterday was most peaceful until late in the evening when DM had one of her 'tantrums' because I wanted to watch the last ten minutes of a programme before talking to her! We eventually had to have the row over email as her deafness gets worse when she's having this kind of spell and wants to wallow. See, not all gin and marshmallows here.
Think I'll be doing her shopping this morning myself. Then there's most stuff to take to the tip before heading home. I've also got a bagful of old birthday/ Christmas cards and postcards too which she dug out last night. Slowly the amount of accumulated papers are bring whittled down.
Once all that is done I'll be able to head home, I'll have the pictures to rehang in the hallway and upstairs. Thrilling stuff here too! Then I'll be gearing myself up for the penultimate episode of Dr Who in this series. Looks like serious stuff.
I hope everyone has a great Saturday.0

            Morning :hello:
Oooh Germoline in a tin, I used to love the smell! When my kids were little, I went to buy some and was miffed to find it in a tube. Even more miffed when I got home and opened it, it was a bit runnier, the wrong shade of pink and the aroma had changed. I only ever bought that one tube and switched to Sudocrem after that, lol.
The sun had disappeared by 9am yesterday, it was lovely and cool, I even had to put socks on I tied up my tomatoes, caught four more strawberry runners and ate five strawberries. I tied up my tomatoes, caught four more strawberry runners and ate five strawberries.
I had to sort out an unwanted pension, it's called automatic enrolment but is anything but, there's nothing automatic about it. Register here, go through endless pages, click link to pick a provider, fill in form, wait for confirmation email (still waiting for email at the mo). Go back to original page, fill in pension details. In October, it'll kick in and take the first payment – I think, that's his date on the letter but it also says he doesn't have to pay anything til he's 22, which is March next year. Only then can you opt out and you'll get a refund. Do it within 28 days or you'll be stuck with it forever. What a lot of faffing about, why can't he just opt out now? It's annoying for employers and must be really annoying for the pension providers.
Not sure what I'm doing today, I just know that mr tru is at work so whatever I end up doing, I'll enjoy it

Morning folks. We got back last night after 5 days at the caravan. I don't know why but I sleep so much better there. Last night I was back to my usual tossing and turning and early rising.
It was hot, hot, hot inside the 'van when we got there Monday but became more bearable as the week progressed. The thunder and lightening never materialised for us which we were a bit miffed about, as we wanted to see if the awning withstood heavy rain after our labours! We had a day in Harrogate on Tuesday and enjoyed a free Italian lunch using the vouchers earned through our gas and electric company. Not having to pay made it more enjoyable! Thursday we went to Ripon Races and donated far too much money to the bookies retirement fund!! We like to go at least once through the season but our luck never changes!
We are grounded this week as childminding resumes again Wednesday and Mr TA has his pre-op assessment on Tuesday. Still no appt for the Neurologist despite me ringing Monday morning to try and chase it up.
NELSKI I am another who could write a book about parent problems. My mum was only 59 when my dear dad died suddenly. Overnight she turned into a bitter and angry woman, constantly demanding my attention. This went on for 25 years, during which time she had ever increasing health problems including Parkinsons and dementia. If I wasn't with her I was bombarded with demanding phone calls wanting to know where I was, both day and night. (This whilst still having the kids at home and holding down a stressful job) I reduced my working hours and spent every afternoon with her but I still wasn't doing enough in her eyes. It's only thanks to the patience of my DH that I got through those times.
JUDI re the soap in bed trick. I recently read that lavender scented soap works best. Have you tried that?
KARCHER how's the wound today? It sounds pretty nasty don't neglect it. I am another Savlon fan, it's used for everything. Magic cream it certainly is! I love the smell of Germoline but stopped using it when a nurse told me it was too "searching" (whatever that meant!)
I have a mountain of washing to do. Caravan bedding and lots of sweaty clothes included. Not to mention numerous towels from the increased showers. Heatwaves do create a lot more washing don't they!
A top up shop to do this morning to tide us over till the usual midweek shop. Just Aldi should do but may pop in Iceland too as I like the fish from their posh range and our stocks are running low.
Oh well enough waffling from me, so have a good day folks and (HUGS) for the poorlies, sad and worried who need them. I too keep wondering where LAMEWOLF is, I don't think she has posted since her holiday. Take care all xxx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

            Morning All
Bright and breezy here, a big white load from last night and the bedding are on the line, more to do when I've been swimming. Only managed one early morning swim this week so will have to catch up!
I've done the ironing and emptied the freezer, there wasn't really enough in it to warrant having it running whilst I'm on holiday, it's dripping away but doesn't look to have too much frost. Plenty to keep me going this week so minimal shopping to do.
You have the patience of a saint Gers, good job you love her!
Hugs to you Nelski.
Scampi certainly seems to be coming on tru.
Hope you all have a good weekend, take care. XX0

Wow ......this thread has been very humbling to see what other people cope with with parents. I think it has made me realise that my situation is no where near as bad as many. Should be a good book though so many people who are coping without saying anything and so many "funny" stories
No major plans this weekend bar some cleaning and chilling ...Bridget Jones Baby has just appeared on Sky so think that will be featuring at some point :j
Shopping delivery arriving at 11...I am really finding I save lots by using the vans as literally order what I need and not what offers I am drawn towards in the sparkly enticing shop. Still on a mission to use the freezer stuff up but its so slow when you're a singleton
Right on with the dishwasher
Have a great day everyone 0 0

            Morning everyone,
Dull, cloudy and windy here but still not much rain.
We have been enjoying watching the racing from Ascot every afternoon and it's the last day today so will make sure everything is done before then, not loads to do tbh just a general tidy round. I will have to sort the tomato plants out as they are shooting up and need a good feed, they are grown outside so only flowers at the moment.
Welcome home TA glad you had a good break away.
Strength to all coping with demanding parents x
Have a good day folks x0
