Homebuyer's vs Building Survey on Self Repairing Leasehold Property

Hello,
Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place but here goes...
I am purchasing a first floor leasehold flat. It's a purpose built maisonette - a maisonette in this case being two self contained flats (ground floor and first floor) with there own separate entrances and no communal space, NOT a flat with two floors. It was built in 1939.
It has a self repairing lease meaning that I won't pay a service charge but am therefore responsible for the structure of the property from my floor up, including the roof, and I will be liable for any repairs.
I would like to get a survey done to make sure it is structurally sound but am having trouble finding out whether a Building Survey or HomeBuyer's report is best. I've called several surveyors and they give conflicting information. Some say a full Building Survey is needed, others just a HomeBuyer's. I don't know if I will be able to get access to the downstairs flat and some surveyors say this will render a Building Survey useless, others not. I'm so confused! Can anyone please advise which they think I need?
Many thanks in advance for any responses.

What is 'needed' is whatever you want.
Nothing is actually 'needed'.
Read up on the difference between the surveys and choose the one that best meets your 'need'.
