Looking to have my son's Iphone 5 unlocked I just want to make sure he will not loose his apps / pics. I know I can back the phone up through ITunes if things will be lost when unlocked.
Thanks

No, unlocking does not do anything but unlock.

How are you getting it unlocked?

Rumour has it that some methods re-lock after a while ;)

Since about iOS 6 there has only been one unlocking method, the official one.

    Unlocking is a red herring.
If you haven't got it backed up anyway, why worry specifically about unlocking it?
Suppose he loses the phone / its stolen / drops it in water / etc?

Why haven't you/him already backed it up?
