Monzo card

Was just about to order one of these for use abroad, and noticed a message on app saying 'please remember this is a Beta, so carry a backup card for now'. Does that mean there's a chance something could go wrong with it? All our holiday money is going to be on it, so I can't have a backup... may as well just order a different card if that's the case.

Yes, of course there is. As there will be with any other card you get.
No card is guaranteed 100% reliable. You should always carry alternative. Failures can, and do, happen for a variety of reasons.
Putting all your money on one card is just plain daft!0 -
I don't think it is daft. I could easily just be taking my debit card and I don't have a backup bank account that I put half my wages in in case it fails. I will be taking a credit card and some cash, but what I didn't plan to do was to split the rest of our money between two different pre-paid cards. Presumably the message refers to the entire Project being in Beta, so there's no point somebody else in our party also getting a Monzo card because if anything goes wrong it'll likely be the entire service not just the card. Therefore may as well just go with a different service completely that isn't in the testing phase. Ought to be flagged really in the info on the main site.0

You don't have to split your money between cards. Just leave it in your bank account and top up the cards as and when you need to.0

This is not a "reply", I'm just trying to find out whether anyone has used this card for hiring a car? I know it's a prepaid and these are normally not accepted, but I heard Martin say something on the radio that this one works for car hire too. Further complication, it will be in the US and Canada..0

Maybe with AVIS. I wouldn't bank on it with anyone else.0
