Top ruined after washing according to instructions

Thanks again all.
I followed the washing instructions exactly which say nothing about low spin speed (I used normal) or using a protective mesh bag (I didn't).
The top (Karen Millen, around £40 in the sale purchased with a debit card from House of Fraser) has a small zip at the top which I closed and turned the top inside out before washing. The only other item in the wash was a red dress (not shrunk and no holes).
I thought the 6 months return rule was gotten rid of with the Consumer Rights Act? I'm going into London today so will take the top and receipt with me and hope for the best!0 -

A trader would not be liable for a faulty product where it is as a result of normal wear and tear, accidental damage or misuse.
The relevance of the 6 months is that up to 6 months from purchase the trader has the burden of proving that it is wear/tear, damage or misuse. After 6 months, this onus switches to the consumer who would have to prove the fault is not these things and is/was an inherent fault0 -
Have you ironed it yet? Viscose often looks like it has shrunk until you press the wrinkles out.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

No one has answered about the 3 holes in it now? Has your machine ever ripped anything before?0

Probably better to start a separate thread if you want to discuss this...0 -

Don't want to discuss it as it happened many years ago. I am just pointing out that what it was washed in could have damaged it.
I washed my usual washing on the same cycle as usual with the recommended amount of powder. It only happened with that powder.
This was when Ariel first appeared and at the time there were lots of reports of the same happening to others.
Apparently it was because there was a bleach in the powder (to achieve the claimed results) which was not advertised.0 -

Thank you for explaining this - it's really helpful!
So, I took the top back to House of Fraser, explained what happened to the top and I got a no quibble refund. It was so much quicker than I thought it would be! Don't know what I was worrying about now!
Thanks again for listening!0
