Low standing charge suggestions

I try to choose tariffs with low standing charges even if that means slightly higher gas/electric unit prices. Being a low energy user this works out cheaper for me.
Can anyone please suggest a supplier who is currently offering low standing charge on any fixed tariff ?
My Sainsbury's Energy tariff is coming to an end and they are no longer offering what I need, so although the gas/electric price isn't going up that much, the daily standing charge is more than doubling, and my gas bill will also double. Thanks in advance.

Just go to a switching site like https://energycompare.citizensadvice.org.uk/ and input your annual energy used in kWh. The results will list the deals from the cheapest upwards and are the ones best suited to you for your actual use.
Do not get caught up with standing charges as it is the ANNUAL TOTAL COST that is key.
Also in the results look at the separate gas and electricity deals as sometimes it is cheaper to use different suppliers.
  • Thanks for your thoughts. I am well used to comparison sites, although it's massively time consuming to go through every tariff looking for low standing charges because most sites don't make it easy to find. The citizens advice site is better because they at least tell you your savings compared to what you are on now, rather than using the standard tariff you would be switching to, like the commercial sites.
Obviously when I use very little gas, the standing charge makes a massive difference, and will more than double what I pay, going up from 10.5p per day/per fuel, to 26p per day/per fuel. So basically I'd be going from using gas in the coldest month, to not using at all and just paying for a standing charge.
So.. just asking if anyone has actually seen a current tariff with very low standing charge.

Unless you are changing your tariff / supplier a low standing charge tariff could actually be costing you more in the high use months. The cost per year is the governing factor and if you happen to be paying only the standing charge during the low use periods you are still better off overall.

MSE CEC has a no standing charge button and both them and EnergyHelpline will compare the new tariff cost against your current tariff.

As for suggestions, the standing charge can vary between regions. One of the tariffs I am on has a 50% variation between regions.

Current offer from the Co-op (was GB Energy) is 13.65p per day, 9.87p per KwH for leccie, 9.19p per day, 2.78p per KwH for gas - dunno if that's for any new accounts or just for existing GB Energy customers - about 5-6% more than my current fixed (until September) tariff so may be a "bribe"... (Yorkshire region)

Ebico have zero standing charges. I use them for a holiday flat where actual power consumption is quite low.

Me too. I've had people make suggestions based on my unit price, and they suggest alternatives where, for gas, the standing charge is more than my current annual bill!

Mind you, the market is changing so I'll probably review this autumn.

I've never tried it, but I wonder if comparison sites let you enter 0kwh for your annual usage? If so, they should return results ordered according to standing charge only. If they wont accept 0kwh then enter as small a number as they'll allow.

That is not what gsmlnx advised you to do in post#2

    Good luck!

Follow the advice given to the OP in post#2

Ebico are often quite expensive nowdays, especially for gas. ;)
