Barclaycard Platinum Travel - Help Needed
Comments

That's why I wanted to check, as the T&C's seems to contradict the rest of the promotional offer, All cleared up by ZX81 however so all is good.
Thanks0 -
Holiday isn't until September so I hope so too !
Interestingly it said I was preapproved on the MSE site, but after the application barclaycard now say I have to wait 5 days for a decision.
I imagine it's to because MSE asked for other household incomes whereas Barclaycard didn't.
I only want it to get a better exchange rate and so I don't have to carry cash, I dont need the credit !0 -
I wanted to share my recent (current) experience in case it helps others.
I've held a Barclaycard since 1980 but successfully applied for an additional Platinum Travel card earlier this year because of its "no foreign fees until 08/2018". For newer Platinum Travel cards Barclaycard have since extended this period until 2022.
Wanting to take advantage of the new extended period I contacted Barclaycard about applying for a new card who told me
1. You can have two cards (maximum)
2. If I close my original card held since 1980 [which I have now done] I must wait 6 months until I can be considered for a new card (with the 2022 extended fee offer).
I'm distinctly unimpressed. Barclaycard describe measure #2 as a way to stop "rate tarts" [my term not theirs] but nowhere is this 6-month period listed and really Barclaycard only have themselves to blame as they announce better terms and are surprised when existing cardholders me seek to get the better deal.
I've raised a formal complaint with them (56 days for a response) because
a. I can't find the 6-month period listed anywhere. I believe it's an unreasonable term.
b. Barclaycard are actively penalizing existing customers. I'm now down to a single Barclaycard product but am still precluded from applying. Imagine if BT or a mobile phone provider implemented something similar - IMHO there would be uproar.
Thanks for listening. Paul0 -
They can have whatever criteria they want. They also don't need to publish them.0

It is quite annoying when companies prefer to attract new customers over extending benefits to loyal customers but sadly it happens a lot, and not just with credit card providers.
I obtained the Barclaycard Platinum travel card (the 2018 promotion) shortly after its launch and have used it on a couple of trips since. It’s the only Barclaycard I hold and I was vaguely thinking of closing it and applying for the 2022 promotion – assuming that’s still available – when my existing promotional period expires. On the other hand, I might just not bother as I also have a Santander Zero card – it doesn’t offer interest free cash withdrawals, unlike Barclaycard, but the interest is pretty minimal if handled correctly.0 -
Recently inquired about Barclaycard Platinum Travel card and was informed my existing Barclaycard Platinum card did not have the new Travel features/benefits so I applied for a Barclaycard Platinum Travel Card, which duly arrived today.
I note there is nothing on the 'new' card to indicate it is a 'Travel' version of the regular or older Barclaycard Platinum credit card.
This is really confusing so I again spoke to a nice Indian chap who confirmed only the newer Barclaycard Platinum Credit Card has the new promotional Travel Card rates.
So now I have two virtualy identical Barclaycard Platinum Credit cards with two different credit limits and have had to mark card no. 2 with a T so I can tell the difference and don't accidentally withdraw foreign cash - at high cost - using my original card!
Marketing may wish to write to all existing customers and explain the situation then issue new Travel Cards with a different design and name such as Travel Card.0 -
They may, but they won't, as the costs will vastly outweigh the benefits.0
-
It's not really a "Barclaycard Platinum Travel Card" - it's a Barclaycard Platinum Card with a promotional offer.0
