All air conditioning is rubbish, first it's too hot and you have to turn it all the way down, then it's too cold and you have to turn it all the way up, it's a constant battle of too hot, too cold, too hot, too cold opening and closing windows etc ALL DAY LONG!!!!!

I just set the temperature and the climate control does the rest.

I don't really understand why you are doing it if the A/C is working at full efficiency. If it's extra hot like it is recently I will turn the car on and leave the door open for 20 seconds until it starts cooling before I go...

Doing it my way means I am 20 seconds further down the road than you are. :D

..Although I do have climate control in my car so that deals with controlling the outside and I side vents and fan speed automatically. So if I wanted to do it your way I would have to go into the climate control menu and turn off A/C and auto mode then adjust the vent controls in the menu and then adjust the fan with the knob. So it really would be a faff!
That does sound like a load of faffing around.

I just have to press a button or two and turn a knob and I can do that without looking or having to take my eyes off the road to study menus.

What are these "menus" that you speak of ? My car has a temperature dial, a button to switch air-con on or off, and a dial to direct the air flow. Easy to work, it is :-)
  • This hot weather is bad news for my average MPG. Roll on the winter.

    Go on, what car?

Very few compressors pull more than about 5-10bhp. It must be VERY underpowered for that to be an issue.

My diesel corsa used to do that, but being cool was more important than speed!

If you find this necessary then i think your A/C isn't working as efficiently as it should.

Even in this hot weather i can get in my car, start the engine and the climate control will get the car to a comfortable temperature easily in 1 - 2 minutes without messing about changing the fan and opening the windows.

The key to keeping A/C in a good usable condition is to use it all year round. My car has it on by default and you have to go into the climate control menu to turn it off, so it's left on all year. It's 10 years old and is as cold any new car i have driven.

For me 1-2 minutes in a hot car is far too long.

So get in, start it and knock the aircon to full/recirc, then get out and shut the door. Wait a few minutes in the shade near the car. Get back in and drive off in comfort.

Gawd, how did we all cope before aircon?

Mine is even easier to use, you turn the dial to the right if you want to be warmer and the dial to the left if you want to be cooler. It will automatically direct the air flow, adjust the A/C, adjust fan speed and open and close the re-circulation flap so no need to go into the menus at all.
