EDF energy extremely high electricity cost

Is it just me or it is true that the London (South Kensington) electricity price is very expensive? I am an EDF customer for about 9 months, the total bill is nearly 1500 pounds for two bedrooms flat (in a building).

Highly unlikely that electricity is drastically more expensive in London than anywhere else in the country. Being on a standard tariff and using a lot will make your bill high.

How many kWh a year are you using ?
Are your bills based on actual or estimated readings ?
Was a correct opening reading supplied when you moved in ?
As you are in a flat is the meter being billed actually yours ?

If you are an all electric flat then probably no.

Are your bills based on ACTUAL readings rather than ESTIMATED? When did you last submit a reading ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Are you on the standard tariff?
If so, the quickest fix to reduce your cost is to contact EDF and ask them what is the best fixed rate tariff they can put you on, and what exit fee (if any) it has. That should be an immediate switch if acceptable to you.
If they have no exit fee then put your annual usage in kWh into a comparison site and see what is suggested. You are then free to switch to a cheaper supplier as you please.

    I am on a tariff (Blue+Price something...), I can't change to other because I am a tenant.

Tenants can change tariffs if they are responsible for the bills. Details at

It sounds like you are already on a fixed tariff, which will have a contract end date, after which you will automatically go onto EDF's (expensive) standard tariff.
Use a comparison site, but ignore the "savings", as they will be meaningless and just look at the future predicted costs with different suppliers for your current annual usage.

You often find that the legacy supplier is quite expensive (since they know the inertia of the majority of their customers to switch away)

However, I can see EDF would supply 7500kWh p.a. for less than £1200

But you could buy the same electricity elsewhere for less than £900pa

My daughter uses 7800 and currently pays £971, the cheapest available to her now would be £1044 with many available around £1100.

EDF Blue tariffs were never competitive for electric but their gas was excellent. Get yourself switched, your landlord cannot stop you.

The OP has stated the cost of 9 months power as 'Nearly £1,500'

It's all very vague, but making allowances for VAT & Daily Standing charge, and assuming a net cost of 14pence per KWh, (EDF are that expensive), the estimated usage over that 9 months is 9,850 KWh ! - and that 9 months includes only one winter period
If this 2Bed flat inWest London is a good size and has underfloor Electric heating throughout, the numbers could be possible, but the OP really needs to change the supplier a.s.a.p
