Tesco Credit Suspended for going into Credit !

in Credit cards
Hi - I made a balance transfer from a zero percent credit card with zero fee into my Tesco credit card with the intention of not having to pay my Tesco card off for a few months and using the money I would normally use to pay off the card on home improvements instead .
This worked nicely for a couple of months and then Tesco wrote to me stating I was not allowed a credit balance and they needed to pay it back to me. The letter stated if I didn't contact them within 6 weeks my account would be suspended .
I contacted them within two days and whilst I was on hold with the operator without my knowledge or consent a manager decided to send the balance transfers back to the card they had came from and suspended my account .When the operator spoke to me and informed me what had happened I was very annoyed .I waited on hold and spoke to the customer services manager who did her best to help .I explained that I had called in response to their letter and if I wasn't allowed one.
However no one asked or checked if the balance transfer account was still even open ? ironically by sending the payments back I will now be in credit in that account ! I was also in a supermarket at the point of first call and couldn't pay for my shopping ...I have a number of automatic payments set up on my Tesco credit card these will now not be processed .I wasn't even given any timescales
Ironically if I didn't reply to there letter I could carry on using my card for another month up to the 17th july without any issue and the credit balance would have all been used .I have made a complaint but haven't had a reply .My card remains suspended and I have a credit balance which is sitting there .... not best pleased with Tesco credit card .
By the way I have been a customer for 10 years spending 25 k a year on average and paying my bill in full every month ....what a way to reward customer loyalty .
Don't go with Tesco unless you really want the points for Boost ,a warning to all don't have a credit balance on a credit card !....what can I expect to be a resolution to my complaint ..I have asked for an apology and financial compensation ???

This is what happens when you actively break the t&cs of the card.
You won't be getting either an apology or compensation.
I'd give them a call, apologise for breaking the t&cs and see if they will let you keep the account open. I think it's unlikely though.0 -
To be fair it is clear in most credit cards that any credit balance is against the terms, be lucky that you've only had card suspended and not cancelled. Good luck with complaint and getting the issue resolved but you were asking for trouble the moment you decided that a BT was going to offset your spending this is not what the card you applied for is designed for, a purchase card would have been better.

without my knowledge or consent a manager decided to send the balance transfers back to the card they had came from Standard practise when a credit card has a positive balance and suspended my account Quite within their rights, you broke the T&Cs .When the operator spoke to me and informed me what had happened I was very annoyed .I have asked for an apology and financial compensation ???
As per the reply from ZX81, you deliberately broke the T&Cs of the card. Tesco have done nothing wrong. You'll not be getting any compensation - if you're very lucky they might reinstate the card if you ask them very nicely. You have no right to be annoyed at them, this is nobody's fault but yours.0 -
thanks guys ..interesting to get someone's independent view on matters ...0

No view can overrule the T&C of your card.0

I sure you realise you just to too greedy. Hopefully lesson now learnt. Also well done to Tesco by sending the money back.0 -
Interesting reading as others have said I assumed this was not allowed. Slightly hijacking this, I've just realised I paid 30p too much last month by accident and am also in credit for a couple weeks! Obviously I'll just spend it but I assume again Tesco are in thier right to suspend my card also!0

In theory yes they would be within their rights to suspend the account. In practice they wouldn't. An obvious oversight of 30p, which disappeared in a few days, is a somewhat different matter to deliberately putting the card into credit by a substantial amount.
I had a similar thing a few months back - went into credit by £5, but that was wiped out a couple of days later the next time I spent on the card. No problem at all.0 -

You want compensation for breaking your agreement with them?
As for customer loyalty, they make very little now from customers who repay in full (due the to fall in interchange fees) as they are giving you - up to 56 days interest free loan, S75 protection and Clubcard points. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
