Why should it mean that just because you have a 999/999 score you should get accepted for credit cards? The experian score is based on things on your report - you can be declared bankrupt and get a 999/999 score, you still won't get accepted for a credit card.

    Don't fixate on the score.

Did you know you had a default? Did you check the date of the default? If it was 5 yrs and 11 months then it should be still on. Did you simply check, find it was no longer on and then apply? Why so desperate for credit. Just so you know, whilst they drop off it may actually take longer to be taken off on some systems

Its important to know that these reports are not correct. The report they show you is NOT the same as the info they have on their LIVE system.

My Experian shows a score of 999/999. So i applied for credit for the first credit card in 7 years. Refused.... Your 'score' is a randomly generated number and therefore meaningless.

    Tried another company.... Refused.

Turns out that even though all 3 credit files show as clean. I have a Default from 5 years 11 months ago still showing on their live system. This will go on 1st of July! It is highly unlikely that one default on the verge of 6 years of age will have much of an impact. There will be other reasons for the refusal.

So i questioned experian and they make all sorts of excuses about my address being wrong on my log in details for experian... i said how can that affect anything when my report has all my linked addresses on the report. They also couldnt explain why i have no electoral role info on my report but it shows on the live system!

I asked why im paying them for incorrect info? - they said it will be correct tomorrow 9am. I said i doubt it.. Because you have bought into their advertising pitch that you need to subscribe to their services in order to monitor and improve your fictional score. This is tosh and a waste of money. Only the data on your report is important and this is available for free.

Oddly enough the MSE Experian report which shows another score has my electoral role info and shows 994/999 with no defaults...

Gets even better as their LIVE system doesnt show the credit searches which are supposed to show in real time but they have no record of them. They claim that its likely not their report which was searched.... i said thats funny since Sainsbury quoted a problem with my experian report for being rejected... I dont have any emails from either Virgin or Sainsbury so i have no idea even if they went through or not. The credit matcher on Virgin came back with an error saying they could not validate my identity.

These credit agencies are a joke. They need to be regulated and fined when they screw up... they hold to much power. I absolutely agree, as do many others.

I would have been rejected for a mortgage today had i not figured this out! Maybe, maybe not. A mortgage is a secured financial product. Also, mortgage underwriters are a lot more thorough in looking at your circumstances.

I am not convinced that the default is the issue and I think you need to be looking elsewhere for the reason for the refusals.
