I had the same problem my Ipad 2 got slower with each ios update eventually it became virtually unusable. Apples way of making you buy a new one methinks. Look at other options.

Just recently read an article in a newspaper where someone was asking for advice on their google Nexus 9 tablet which is from 2014 that was running slow.

Old hardware and new software can sometimes result in slowing down of the device. I have never known any company from Microsoft, Apple, Google, Samsung etc etc where old generation hardware and new software don't throw up issues with regards to speed performance. Even without software updates the speed performance can be caused by other issues.

If anyone believe Apple is deliberately creating software that cripples the speed of their device which results in you buying a new device from them then I hope all these consumer protection bodies band together and take Apple to court. However its now been 10 years of IOS and no court cases pending.

Does anyone know how much one could get through these apple part exchange offers on an iPad 2? Would quite like to have some idea before exploring what to get next.

Also if I get rid of the iPad 2 how do I destroy any data it holds?

what gets me with Apple is the amount of people that take out fixed contracts for £30+ a month because they want to just pay 1 bill.
These people need to look around.
I have an iphone from Giffgaff that is unlocked and only coats me £8.89 a month and they i have a SIMO from tescomobile for £9 a month, so £17.89 and the same from a high street store would cost £32

I did NOT label anyone in this post, maybe you have some guilt complex. maybe you just like barking to protect your master.

BTW it is a bit weird and stalkerish for you to go rummaging through my posts, I tell you this in case you have some sort of social disorder where you might not realise it.

Yep I do hate Apple, or rather the things they do that I find anti competitive or anti libertarian but it does not make me go bite the head off anyone who posts anything pro Apple.

IMO Apple has a niche, people who can't get their head around the technology and they overcharge them, thus exploiting them.

The founder of Apple has always been about proprietary technology to exploit users, for years they would not even use Intel. So I guess it is in their culture.

Apple has default options in their devices that allow children to be exploited, they have made tens of millions from this, they force a credit card to be applied to the device on the basis that it is proof of ID, then they keep that card for use to charge people without proper consent,

I guess if I am honest I do not hate Apple, I hate the things they do, still it will not affect my advice, which was merely to check out the competition and sure enough it got the response I anticipated.

I don't have a master I have free mind and will to choose what I say and do within the confines of the law.

Having a good memory or an awareness of certain view points does not constitute a social disorder.

Biting off someone's head is usually because that persons angry. I'm not angry and if I am it will be conveyed with cap locks or angry emojis.

Recommending someone to try something different is good when it's based on what their needs are. So to use a different product when no company has completely solved the issue with tablets slowing down over time in my opinion is not a sound recommendation.

Apple serve a wide demographic of the population and I have faith that the majority of customers know what they want just like android and windows customers. The wonderful thing is that all these customers of computer products can vote with their feet and wallets. All companies have screwed up in dealing with their customers and depending on many factors customers will either stay or leave.

To say they do things that are anti libertarian I find that confusing as the founder of Apple has a belief and vision based on his own free thinking and choices. Apple do not take away my freedom of choice or thinking all they do is offer me a different experience of using technology.

If no laws are being broken then companies should be able to create and push the boundaries of what is the norm so to drive progress. Of course with pushing those boundaries they will make mistakes along the way and also butt up against governments but with give and take new opportunities and benefits are created.

Apple have been around for 40+ years and maybe they overstep that boundary or new laws get enacted in the future that make everything you hate about Apple get fixed and then you can be the one to say "I told you so"

The problem is that most (almost all) Android tablets are crap with few ongoing updates.

The fact that iPad 2s from early 2011 are still running is quite amazing.

I've got a 9.7" Pro with pencil and can see this lasting me some years yet.

There are several retailers (Apple included) who will offer a trade-in price for your iPad 2 depending on the condition it's in etc.

For example Mazuma Mobile are offering £60 for a working iPad 2 (16GB, Wi-Fi only).

In terms of securely removing data a full factory reset: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201252 will do the trick OP.

I looked into the Apple trade-in when I got a new MacBook last year and it was very poor. I then went to CEX (check to see where your local shop is, although they do online trade-ins & you can check like-for-like prices via the website) and they offered a lot more, almost double. They ran diagnostics on the spot and a cash trade-in. I have since used them for an iPhone and iPad and found them to offer a very fair price without any of the stress involved in advertising via eBay or sending it off.

As a previous poster has stated, the reset option on the iPad provides a secure wipe (as far as I am aware!!!).
